Slow internet on Asus USB-N53 wireless dongle?

I've just bought one of these to use on my new wireless network (previously all wired). My old USB dongle didn't have any 5Ghz support on it and I was eager to play around with this feature. However with the new dongle I'm getting silly low speeds and I don't know why :/

This is my old £10 generic dongle on 2.4Ghz

As you can see it gets full speed on my 60Meg connection.

This is the Asus dongle on 5Ghz

This is the Asus on 2.4Ghz

I've got the latest drivers installed I'm hoping there's something I can do to sort this or it's going back under DSR. Any ideas?

just an idea but why not try powerlines ?
