Men with shaved heads appear more masculine

I shave my head and i do it with a razer blade.

Im a real man..... I think

Yup, I'm with you there. Nothing says 'real man' as well as razor burn to your smooth bonce . I should just accept some areas of my head will never feel as smooth as the naturally hairless bits :D.

Men who shave their heads do look more dominant and scary. Attractive, nah. They look like they're trying way too hard.

How does shaving your head make it look like you're trying too hard? Surely styling your hair with gel and other hair products would be trying too hard?

It's because society associates that look with criminals and other groups linked to violence, eg bouncers, military forces, neo-nazis etc.

The study is using their own definition of masculinity anyway and has questionable methodology. So it's pretty flawed.

Yea' you actually hit the nail on the head there I think.

Fair one, personally can't see how spending sub 1 min cutting your hair is trying too hard but each to their own I guess :D

It's the whole 'look at me, I'm so hard, grrr' thing that I find a little bit meh.

Big muscles and shaved head just makes me want to pat their polished domes and give them an 'aww aren't you cute' :D

Look at all the male celebrities that women like. How many of them have hair and how many are bald?

A lot of them even have long hair, and the ladies go crazy over them.

1) They are celebrities.

2) A beautiful person is a beautiful person no matter how much hair they have.

Forget celebrities, and start thinking average guys in the street, because the rules are different.

This is a true and subconscious perception to almost all men... guys with a shaven head DO look more dominant and physically aggressive because hair works to soften features. Fact.

However, whether it's a relevant style nowadays is open to debate... it's also closely associated with thuggery and less desirable elements of the human character.

So, it's official, this man is a pussy?

Similar to muscular men. There's no need in our modern day society for any man to have bulging huge muscles. They don't need to run fast to catch food, they don't have a spear to throw further and harder to kill tonight's dinner.

And yet some men insist upon spending inordinate amounts of time and money on looking exactly like that. It's not relevant to modern day man.

Hilarious that you think thats a shaved head thing.

Its a very stereotypical thing, could say the same about non white people being x,y and z. Or women who wear skirts or show slight bits of cleavage wanting it etc...

I know plenty of people with skinheads who have it for a functional purpose or to help with cooling when training etc.

Very ignorant but we all have our views and opinions.

Yeah except for the reason of procreation which is the number 1 driving force behind human evolution and instinct. Having a visually attractive body attracts a mate.

Plus, some people do actually have physical jobs....Some people do enjoy sports.

It is very relevant to modern day man...Actually more so than to ancient man. Having big 'mirror muscles' never really happened. Those hunter gatherers, despite what you may have seen in the movies, didn't look like arnie. Their bodies used their limited calories very efficiently.

Very ignorant indeed.

Especially as the majority of guys with shaved heads to it to disguise the fact that they are balding naturally anyway :o

Yup exactly, there WERE no muscle men in ancient times... there was absolutely no need for it, and it is the least efficient thing that you could do in a society limited by energy expenditure vs food intake. Sure, there were big guys, but only in terms of natural frame and depending on how intensive their daily life was (which will naturally build muscle to a limited extent). No bodybuilders though, that's a very recent development in the grand scheme of things. People either used to train hard everyday to fight and kill, or to work in hard places like smitheries (hence why they were known for being muscly big guys).

Even if they do, most women prefer men with some feminine characteristics, e.g. Justin Bieber.

Lets rephrase that slightly...

Even if they do, most nice women prefer men with some feminine characteristics, e.g. Bradd Pitt.

:p

A lot of the girls wanting highly masculine men with shaved heads probably aren't the kinda girl a lot of people would be interested in going out with...
