MSI fan here too, wouldn't touch a Sapphire with someone else's money let alone mine :p

You'll want this thread moved to the graphics card section ;)

Some of the vapor-x cards have been reported to not have voltage control, which is the key feature for 7950 over clocking IMO. Sapphire did the same with the 58xx vapor-x, toxic and xtreme cards, so be wary of that.

No such issues with the MSI, so I would go with that, even if the cooling is slightly better on the sapphire.

Plus you don't want t a blue PCB on your card :D

I'd normally say go with Sapphire but this time i'd say go with the MSI as quite a few have said the voltage control is limited and MSI's warranty is better and with 3 years as opposed to the 2 years with Sapphire. Isnt MSI's RMA in the UK aswell? I think Sapphire is somewhere in Europe but i guess OCuK will handle it anyway :)

At all the cards I've looked at MSI is the card to get. I'm hoping to get the MSI 7970 Lightning if I can in the next week or two. The sad thing is the lightning went up in price. so I'm looking around for the cheapest? If there is one? If not I might get one of the others? don't know really....I'm still up in the air on this one?????

Give it a week or two and the lightning may become available on a 'This Week Only' offer again.. it usually does ;)

thanks all for the input. It looks like you guys made a good point as the good feature about the 7950's is the oc potential and if the vapor-x is voltage locked that is nothing to me. But im a bit gutted to as im forking out an extra 24 quid to get the msi as last week it was £239 and its £264:(

I'm trying to get the MSI 7970 lightning. I hope to in a week or two> crosses fingers:D My PSU should just about handle it. 550watt is needed.

How would 2 7950's oc'd of course in CF, compare to a £450 - £500 single oc'd 680 or a single 7970 Lightning?

7950 CF would be quite a lot faster than a single 680 or 7970.

Good to know, thinking of getting one soon and then another at a later date. Seems quite a good option as the next gen are some way off being released I think and there's always going to be something else on the horizon anyway.

I took a punt and order'd a Vapor X. Should be arriving early next week so I'll let you know where I stand with the voltage.

From what i've been reading the problem is related to the boost feature. It seems like when the oc'ing programs are updated to better handle boost then upping the voltage should be fine. It's difficult to find anything concrete at the moment though.

Hope it's not locked that would be a bitch for you.
Although 950 core (boost) is still pretty powerful (I ran my first 7950 at 950).
