Punishment for cyclists?

Wtf am I reading?

How many people are injured by other pedestrians each year? I'd hazard a guess that more people are injured by people barging/running into/pushing other people than injuries to pedestrians caused by cyclists. Should every pedestrian have a licence/ID visible on their person as well?

More people are injured every year by falling coconuts and defunct toasters than Sharks, yet numerous countermeasures every year are made to deal with Sharks.

I mean if this thread is descending into this kinda talk, you're not gonna win.

Jimmy Saville was a keen cyclist. Just sayin'......
That reminds me, it's time to break out my usual response to "cyclists are brain dead"-type comments;

That's because people are afraid of sharks when really they should be afraid of coconuts and defective toasters but their prejudices don't let them change.

Its like how immediately after an earthquake there is a massive surge in people taking out earthquake insurance which they allow to lapse as time goes on because 'there hasn't been an earthquake for ages'. If there hasn't been a quake for ages it's time to start thinking about insurance.....

People don't think logically.

There does need to be a way of identifying cyclists, they use the roads and unlike motorists, unless someone catches them in the act they go unpunished for being reckless and potentially causing accidents and damage.
That said I am well aware its a minority of cyclists who do this.

Back when I was at school they had the cycling proficiency test, which in england and wales is now known as the bikeability program.
Surely it makes sense to only be allowed on busier roads when a certain level of capability has been proven. How many of the people who cycle into london everyday actually have it? Probably not many.

Cycling in London is easy; the rest of the traffic barely moves.

And when it does, cyclists go up the inside, outside and backside of every vehicle in a vain attempt to get themselves killed and/or prove with their silly little cameras that road users are clearly in the wrong at every given opportunity.

Well it moves so infrequently that's its bound to catch them by surprise.

I got run off the road on Thursday by a silly bint sending a text message and veering into the cycle lane (I wonder how many folks realise a solid white line means motor vehicles do not cross?). I knocked on her window and before I managed to remonstrate with her she said 'I've just found out I've got cancer and I don't need ***** like you in my life'. Like that's an excuse. I hope she wasnt lying.

God forbid people use their mirrors or pay attention to what they are doing.

the amount of drivers driving and texting is unbelievable.. or even talking on phone! a lot more than stupid cyclists on the road for sure :)

bet she would have felt even worse having cancer in prison for driving without due care and attention.

Someone in London got a talking to by the cops for running a red light on a bicycle. Obviously the rules don't apply to them.

That's pretty rare. The talking to that is. The Met and London City Police both regularly target junctions to pull, fine and if necessary prosecute cyclists. Which is great.

Anyone who jumps a junction whilst its surrounded by rozzers in hi-viz needs shooting for their own safety.

It's very rare for someone to get sent to the big house for anything less than killing a cyclist.

By that logic Alan Sugar shouldn't be required to have insurance to drive a car as he could afford to pay "millions".

He isn't, if you have the money you can make a deposit with the treasury and are not required to pay insurance.

P.S. I'd love to know how a driver can cause 'millions' of pounds worth of damage in once incident.

Medical expenses mainly, though certain collisions, for example those involving petrol stations or very expensive vehicles can also add up to that amount.

That is what annoys a lot of people.

If a driver runs a red light and gets caught it a £60 fine and 3 points although maximum can be £1000 fine 6 points and possible disqualification.

A cyclist runs a red light and gets a telling off.

fair? i think not.

Well it is sort of, driving through a junction in a 1ton lump of metal is a bit different to doing the same on a bike. You're not really going to kill anyone on a bike.
