The "New Gear/Willy Waving" thread

Just picked up the 105mm vr micro lens and my god it's good, the bokeh is incredibly smooth, going to use it mainly for portraits with the odd macro usage. Picked it up for £500 which is great!

Just ordered myself a Nikon 50mm F1.8G with filters, Was going to buy a F1.4G but after reading reviews etc, I see the 1.8G is better :/ I should post all my new stuff i've got a SB910 here plus a Canon Pixma pro 9000 mrk2 lol.

It is. Recently bought the 1.8G myself as the 1.4G doesn't have an aspherical element and its sharpness is now where near as good upto around F4-5.6, so using it wide open at 1.8G would give a worse result on the 1.4G than the 1.8G. Was nice saving myself like £140 when I realised that :D

50/1.2, but I saw online its cheaper for the Far East anyway but I just want to pay them a visit.

I think you might like it. It renders some beautiful images straight off the card, somehow both saturated and natural looking colours.

If you do get to play with one, I'd like to know your thoughts in comparison to the 85L. :)

Well snobbery aside, I used it for nigh on 6 years and never had a single issue with it. The ONLY reason I no longer use it is that I have the Sigma 50mm 1.4. People that say it's awful are talking out of their rear quite frankly. You only have to look at the images that it produces to see that. Yes it's cheap build wise, but it costs £90. When I got the nifty fifty it cost £70ish. It's a fantastic lens. If I was to be picky I'd say the only thing that marked it down was that it hunted in low light, but I don't consider that a negative on a cheap lens, just something to work around. If I spent £400-£1200 on a 50mm that hunted in low light then yes I'd be unhappy.

Still, this is the first lens I recommend to anyone that's asking about a first lens purchase. Along with the 85 1.8, it's ace :)
