Hotel h&s issues.

Hi,

I had the misfortune of booking a hotel that was disgusting and provided many many h&s issues, is there any body I can complain to?
Also what about the "Crown rating" again is there anything I can do about that?

It's privately owned so a letter to head office won't do anything.
 
post an (honest) review on trip advisor... don't go overboard but just keep it factual. I find the review ratings to be fairly representative of the hotels that I have stayed at.
 
Well the manager/owner/person there didn't charge us as we didnt spend a full hour there.
My dad received an electric shock, the 70s built in hairdryer was located above the bath taps where the shower thingy would be connected. I'm sure the banister on the stairs isn't meeting legal requirements anymore (it's below waste height) and the fact it was wobblier than me trying to claim stairs. And then there's the general disgusting state of the place which would be why I'd be getting the crown ratings poeple to try and review their "award"
 
I "won" an 18-30's holiday like that many years ago (radio phone in show)
2 star hostel in Costa Brava...
There was broken glass on the floor of the bedroom, the sink wasn't attached to the wall, the bath leaked all over the floor, the bed was broken and the inside of the main door had many many previous locks attached to it at some point judging by the screw holes and drill holes down its edge. (you could see through the door)
No one was interested in helping, miraculously no one spoke English when we did complain and to be honest it wasn't just a wrong room scenario, the whole place was a dump.
After one night of WW3 going on outside the door we left and went to a different hotel.
Never did get any compensation for it because it was "won" in a competition.
Good luck with you getting anywhere.
 
Not looking for compensation just looking to stop poeple making the same mistake we did (well my mum booked it) and before anything more serious than getting a shock off a light switch.
 
If it sounds as bad as you said it does I would report this said hotel to the Health and Safety excecutive without a second thinking about it. I would imagine the said owners of the hotel are ignorant of there responsibilities under law so could quite easily be breaking several of them in even opening the door to let people stay, luckly stupidity isnt a defence in court and they will get fined/shut down if that is what is warrented. Normally in cases that are reported an improvement notice wil be served and they will be required to act on said notice or they will have a prohibition notice and then fine and or a prison sentence.

This. Easily could have been killed.
