not true at all - it IS possible to swallow liquid nitrogen before it boils as many people have done it. It is the expansion of the gas that causes the damage - the cold would do very little as the body would warm it up pretty quickly.
The bar-person that made the cocktail probably just put too much liquid nitrogen in it which killed a massive amount of her stomach tissue. I'm sure a tiny amount is fine.
I don't know the full circumstances behind her case, but it is sad that at her age, her stomach has been removed.
However I can't understand experimenting with liquid nitrogen in drinks. Surely this is highly dangerous stuff as it is and should be banned.

I don't think LN would make it to your stomach. It'd all boil in your mouth / throat. I have personally tested the impact of the stuff on my own skin and it instantly boils. Have you any basis for your statement that "many people" have swallowed liquid nitrogen? Sorry, but that sounds like rubbish!
This is all about swallowing super chilled air / nitrogen and liquid (cocktail).... But NOT liquid nitrogen. LN was the cooling agent only.

you might not like it but its true - i have also personally used liquid nitrogen for over 20 years.
there are many reports of people swallowing liq nitrogen and injuries based on gas expansion if you care to look in the literature - it is a well documented injury.
a thin layer will instantly boil off but with a larger amount the inside is insulated - a bucket takes hours to boil off for example - the liquid is cooled as the surface evaporates.
the main injury is from gas expansion - read the reports.
1 in a thousand is a pretty high rate though.
I would have said it's obvious most people out in British towns at night are not in any kind of responsible state to handle cryogenic drinks! Sad story though, should never have happened.
Call me extreme, if you like, but I don't see any good reason for putting liquid nitrogen in drinks. Ought to be banned outright from all bars, pubs and clubs.
