Getting loads of steam friend request because i have a rare tf2 hat :( (also paypal trading?)

OK so i have a tf2 hat called the Unusual hot dogger (with cloudy moon effect) and for some reason i am getting 50-60 friend requests A MONTH on steam, I ignore most but the last one offered me $200 via paypal before i blocked him.

Is paypal trading for tf2 items legal/possible? are all these people trying to scam me? dont play tf2 anymore (im a total war man :D) so what the hell should i do with my unusual hotdogger?
 
Make your steam community profile private or friends only, should stop any tom, dick and harry adding you (being able to browse your stuff).

Selling an item would be breaching STEAM's t+c's so not advisable, but thats you choice. You would want the money paid up front though :/
 
I get a fair few. Normally you can view there profile and know within 2 seconds whether or not they are a TF2 trader. If they are, ignore/block them.
 
you mean a fair few hits? lol jk yeah i checked out one of their profiles once and theyed played tf2 for like 1450 hours :O most ive spent is 250+ hours on shogun 2 :)
 
That's a rare hat + effect combo. Very rare in fact. Unfortunately that hat isn't very popular. $200 is about right I'd say, but I haven't been keeping up with the prices recently. Selling unusuals for paypal is a very common and accepted thing. Just make sure you use a middleman. It's extremely extremely important you use a reliable middleman. Don't even think about trading anything of value without one.

Well it's pretty simple. You give the middleman your hat. The other guy gives him the money. Then the middleman gives you the money and the other guy the hat. That way nobody gets scammed.

Also it might be worth more than $200. I googled and it could even be worth 10 buds (buds are an in game item used as a standard currency), which is about $300 or £180.
 
ah i see that makes sense, didnt know i had something that good, got it for free in a present during a halloween event lol everyone on the server was like "WHAT IN THE ****" i guess i better research a bit so thanks for all the help :) 420
