Hi All I,m after some info regarding downloading speed using utorrent with a VPN enabled is 640 KB/s down & 740KB/s upload any good ?

Are you asking if 640kb/s and 740kb/s are any good? If so, then yep, they're not bad torrent speeds.

But what is your current internet speed? Go here: http://www.speedtester.bt.com/beta/ to find out and report back.

Yeah i was asking if that was any good ..my speed is 74meg down & 14meg upload but sometimes i drop to 69meg & 17meg upload I think thats due to i,m only a week old on Infinity :)

In that case, 640kb is a terrible speed. Should be getting around 9000kb

yeah this is what i thought too :( i,m on B.T Infinity and i know they throttle p2p but that was with a VPN on too any ideas why the download speed would be slow and low i have set up utorrent as per what i,ve read for fast speed ?

From my torrenting, before 11am BT doesn't seem to throttle your download speeds. At around midnight (sometimes at 00:30) the throttling gets uncapped. Upload speeds are always capped at 1mb, but for some reason I seem to notice during random times of the day, it gets "lifted" and I'm able to upload at my max 7mb speed ?

Anyway, getting a better VPN might help. But I don't use VPNs since I don't torrent much so I have no idea on what's good :p.

Why are you using a VPN? The speeds you're getting seem to be related to the throughput limitations of the VPN, you could probably try another one if you're needing one. You don't need to go for a british VPN, some European ones are good, might also be cheaper. You can usually organise a free trial to test them out.

I,m using a VPN as B.T Throttle p2p , and the one i use is Swedish :) i think they must limit the speed on it , but i,m also going to give newsgroups a go as at present there not throttled :) My friend is with B.T & said he uses a newsgroup to download ,and he can download a film of 4.5 gig in 8 mins ! so sort of a difference from p2p speeds i,m getting on B.T :o

Yes, because newsgroups are not p2p, so do not suffer from the same problems and limitations of p2p.
