Crap title I know, couldn't think of anything better

Can any recommend a good tablet mainly as an e-reader / comic book reader

I have seen that the nexus 7 looks like a nice e-reader but not sure how well comics would come out on it? might wait for that rumoured nexus 10

I use an ipad specifically for that, it's brilliant. I'm not sure I could manage on a 7 inch device (depends on the comic obviously but if you don't want to be zooming in then I think 7 inches might be pushing it)

I don't know what the software is like on Android (and I would like to know as well because I don't intend on keeping this forever)

Comics are only just less than readable on my Galaxy S2, so a 7" tablet will be fine - though obviously a 10" would be better for things like splash pages.

Android Comic Viewer is free and does the business, although I think it only handles CBRs. Still, converting CBZ to CBR is easy - all they are is ZIPs and RARs with a modified extension. There's a free batch conversion program on the web somewhere, though I can't recall its name.

very interesting, my main concern is that really - the 7" on the nexus wont be large enough for comics, dont want to have to keep zooming in and out, anyone got a nexus 7 that could comment?

As stated above I've got the Galaxy 7.7 and not the Nexus...but I can't imagine the extra 0.7" makes all that much difference!

Holding the tab in portrait mode is absolutely fine for single page viewing, even with pretty small text on the page - the only time I have to zoom in is when it tries to display a double page and even then you can easily flip to landscape and get the majority on fine!

Perfect Viewer seems to have a bunch of settings to suit - although I've only ever left things on default!

Sweet as, will picked up a nexus 7 then i spose, might hold off a bit and see if it goes on sale for christmas, cheers for advice Guyzzzz

I use my nexus 7 for manga reading, its nice and clear for most images/text, the occasional large image does need zooming in to read but it doesn't bother me to pinch to zoom since you'll swipe for next page anyway.

As for apps, standard gallery from Google is fine but I've started to to use QuickPic app instead just because it adds more sorting options other than most recent image first.

You'd be surprised, the 0.7" can make a surprising difference if you want to read in portrait mode, the Nexus might need to be held a fair bit closer to the face at times, though it will be fine for landscape viewing and scrolling down the page.

7.7 + Perfect Viewer = Awesomeness!
