Hey everyone

Been playing lots of battlefield 3 and planet side 2 beta and my poor 460 is showing its age. Still plays most games comfortably at 1080p medium settings but fancy a upgrade.

I've seen this on ocuk...

KFA2 GeForce GTX 580 OC MDT 1536MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card

For £260 it looks good but is at the MAX I can spend. I'd like to stay with nvidia for physx. I'm not bothered about insane levels of AA so 1.5gb of memory isn't a massive issue to me.

Basically I'm comparing that 580 to 660's and maybe 7850's. Also hope my PSU is up to the job!!

As you have access to the MM I would be looking to pick up a second hand 670 with £260 ultimate max spend.

Or wait until the 670's drop to that price point.

I personally wouldn't pay that much for a 580. It's a nice card but about £50 too much still.

I'd prefer to buy new just for peace of mind with warranties and the like.

My 580 has got 8 years warranty remaining so buying new does not always seem the best choice.

op,i love my 580,its power hungry but i will not be changing it for quite a few years to come yet.

Then you're better off waiting until they drop in price to be fair.

A 670 is going to last you a good while if you aren't fussed about MSAA being on.

I just couldn't say "buy a 580" for £260 when a 670 is only £40 more and a pretty decent amount quicker.

I've provided a 680 benchmark result for you to compare and quantify because with a very mild overclock a 670 will match a stock 680 and be even faster if you want to overclock more.

IMO £40 is worth this jump in performance.

I know you said you can't stretch but for £260 you get a 580 now but if you wait or buy second hand you'll be at the levels posted in that benchmark :).

Performance wise? The 7850s are about cheaper and with a good over clock they're not far off a stock 580 (correct me if I'm wrong though!)

I might just have to wait for price drops on the 670. Can't see that happening for quite a while though.

Rusty, the gf isn't going to like you :p

:D

Also bear in mind that any 670 being sold now has only been owned for a few months so if you buy off the MM most guys will help with warranty claims if the warranty isn't locked to the card rather than the owner.

If it's locked to the card then bingo!

:)

Well the old "for an extra £££ I can have uber performance" bug has bit me. I suppose in the long term it makes sense. I only really upgrade every 2 years.

Last couple of 2GB 670's on the MM look to have sold around your price point with the sellers offering to assist with warranty claims if they should arise.

Just saying...

Hehehe :D

I don't want you to spend more than your ultimate maximum - I would say stick to your guns and wait till they drop.

I could stretch to £320 for the phantom (always wanted one for some reason) if I save the pennies for a few more weeks. Plus sell my old 460 for a fiver :D

Personal choice I would go for:

or

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-095-GI&groupid=701&catid=1914&subcat=2294

Both are regularly on deals so keep an eye out.

I believe these are the full size PCB versions which some people believe helps with overclocking.

If you aren't going to overclock much (or at all) I would say save your money and get the cheapest one you can find.
