Right well after my beats studios failing on me (yes I know they suck bla bla :D) I've decided to invest in a decent pair of headphones.

I want something similar in terms of punchiness and bass but I am aware the beats were designed to mainly do this and sacrifice mid's and highs, they should also not leak any or much sound at all.

I've checked Audio Technica ATH-M50S and they seem like a nice alternative; what's everyones views on this?

Not looking to spend above £140 to be honest.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks :)

If you're interested in durability after the last pair failing on you, then i would suggest the HD25-1 II (as usual). You'll not find much "character" as such in the sound, they're designed for studio/dj/production use to represent the sound as is and not flavour the sound in anyway and i think they do this very well indeed.
They handle deep frequencies very well, but all the way through to the crisp highs. They also isolate extremely well, closed back and clamp on your head nicely.

They should last you years and (at a cost) all parts are replaceable.

I'd be tempted to try the new Beyerdynamic Custom One Pro (cool name :| !)

It's a fair bit different to the HD-25ii since it's a bit larger as it's a circumaural set of headphones. You can change from closed to open as required with the little switches on either can.

If I didn't have a bunch of other Beyerdynamic headphones already I'd probably try these but curiousity isn't a good enough reason to go spend some cash lol. These headphones should also be nice and sturdy like most Beyers and should sound pretty decent. You can also customise them which I guess is cool :E

I've checked the HD25-1 II but is it just me or do the ear cups seem a bit too small?

Will check out the beyerdynamic ones Phal cheers for that.

Do you guys have any opinions on the ATH-M50S then?

Not listening to those myself but they're definitely cheaper :) DT 770s are probably worth considering if budget is a worry.

Take a look on head fi forums search out the models available for your budget but there are some great headphones that are cheaper

superlux range
panasonic htf600 (personally mine broke way too early)
Goldring dr150 ns1000
beyerdynamic range

The m50 from what I have read are very decent closed cans but get impression they are more a bass and treble type of headphone it's all about personal sound signature taste best to have a gander through the head fi forums.Sennheiser HD 598 are within your budget I have heard those they are good too although will leak some noise.

If these are for outdoor use as well then it's a no brainer I'd get sennheiser HD25-1 II If I wanted Hq closed indoors I'd get the beyerdynamics or m50's there is a special edition m50 out there too "ATH-M50-R-SPECIAL - Audio Technica - Professional Closed-Back Studio Headphones with removable coiled cable and threaded locking gold plated miniplug"

i just bought beyerdynamics 770pros 250 ohms and also purchased asus essence st. and paired up they are awsome

Along with beyer DT770, also consider Akg k271 mkii and the 272hd. The 271 are considered to be closed studio cans. They would be my choice of closed back cans, followed by the dt770's.

I've heard good things about Steelseries and I second on the Goldring as I have DR50 (which is rather old now, If you go goldring go for the higher spec ones) which was quite good, they did break rather sooner than I expected (sound in one ear cuts off unless socket in a very magic position which is hard to get right.)

Just remember the HD25's have 70 ohms, so will benefit best with an amp, but they are fabulous

not from a portable such as iphone. Had a pair a while back. Yes you could get a decent amount of sound, but cant really crank them. That was with both iphone and on board sound from a PC. Saying that, my friends Mac pro drove them pretty easily. Plugging them into my little dot really made them sing

I use them with an iPhone almost daily and it's flipping loud.
Agree that a decent amp will sound better, but they are one of the easiest headphones i have to drive.
