Korean Grand Prix 2012, Yeongam - Race 16/20

So what do we think; has RBRs DDRS secured them the WDC and WCC or will the remaining races not see the benefit as much?

If it continues to have almost a second advantage in quali I can see both RBRs on the front row for the remaining races and then even if they don't have the fastest race pace they will still be in a strong position.

The link earlier on about 2012 catching up to 2011 pace worries me if it also means we see 2011-style domination from RBR for the last five races...
 
I think its a minor thing. McLaren throwing the first half of the season down the pan gifted the title to either Alonso or Vettel. Red Bull's development looks to just allow them to cover off Alonso, which is all they need to do now.

I wonder if McLaren will get there version of it working before the season ends?
 
I doubt Ferrari has any answer to Red Bull, so Seb should take the title which he won't really deserve but oh well such is F1 :)

Alonso and Lewis will still have been the better drivers this year than Vettel.

They are, yes. But if teams have been working on them all year and can get them in for the final few races then they will continue to push with them. Like you said, it seems to be giving RBR the little boost they need at the end.

With a close fight between RBR and Ferrari this year, I wonder if we will get another '2008' effect next year where the main teams fighting for the title (McLaren and Ferrari that year) had to continue to focus on the current car right till the end of the season, so suffered a bit with an under-developed car for the following year. It was a bit different back then as there was a major rules change, but I would still be expecting teams like Mercedes and Lotus, and maybe even McLaren, to be focusing more efforts on their 2013 cars than Ferrari and Red Bull are at the moment. Lotus seem to be using Fridays as test sessions for 2013 parts.

How exactly won't he have deserved it if he does take it? Because he's not Alonso?

Seb has had DNF's this year as well that weren't his fault, so he must have been there or there abouts to get the points to now be within 4 of Alonso. Don't forget Alonso has gained points by good fortune this year already as well.

Because I think Alonso and Lewis have been the better drivers this year as I said in my post you quoted. If you think Seb has been the better driver then fair enough that's your opinion not mine :)

A few races ago you argued the other way and disagreed with me that Ferrari didn't have an answer or pace. I see you have come round :p

Your other points I part agree with, I don't think Hamilton has driven much better than Vettel this year. He been very unlucky but not preformed the feats Alonso has in controlling a race with pace that wasn't the best.

As usual with Vettel it takes car dominance for him to come alive, as usual he's then getting the job done over Webber. I don't think that makes him a great driver though.

Regardless of who takes the title now I think it will be hard to not rank this years drivers as:

Alonso
Hamilton
Vettel.

Potentially arguably the 3rd best driver on the grid has the same number of titles as Senna and the most on the grid next year. All hail Newey, didn't someone recently say on here newey is only good with big rule changes, righto......

A few races ago is a long time in F1 though and with Ferrari still unable to get updates working from wind tunnel to track then I can't see them finding much pace now. And with Red Bull making another step forward Ferrari have even more to find.

On the plus side if Seb takes the title lead then most on here will then be rooting for Alonso for the good of the show, what do you think? :D

Only if it's to aid the Hamilton show. No doubt all rooting for a Alonso and Vettel dnf this week for the show.

Going to be nail biting this weekend for me I think.

Article suggests the RBR pace step up is from the exhausts, makes sense really as it's something Newey really does seem to rely on and Vettel.

And it's also illegal this year, so expect to see some fallout from that.

As to why Vettel does not deserve to win the title: because he's a childish, finger-waggling jerk with a vastly overinflated sense of his own worth who in any impartial assessment would struggle to be considered one of the five best drivers on the grid.
