I'm looking to upgrade to an ivybridge system, and was wondering if i could get some recommendations for quiet coolers for the 3570K?

thanks
Gary

Using a Corsair 650D so space shouldn't be a problem, main concern would be if it will obstruct the memory slots on the Gigabyte Z77-DS3H as ill be using all four.

Thanks for the quick reply.

Will you be overclocking? Any cooler with a 120mm or greater fan will be almost silent when cooling a 77W CPU. 140mm fan coolers will be ever better.

No I won't be overclocking , prefer stability and silence over a bump in performance. Budget is also a concern, trying to keep the system under £320 for CPU (3570K), Cooler, Ram (8GB), Motherboard (Gigabyte Z77-DS3H). The BeQuiet cooler looks like a good bet, looks like it will clear the Corsair XMS3 ram I've chosen ok. Going with 2 sticks of 4GB for now, but will add another two soon.

Honestly right now I don't, but I made the mistake of sitting at 4GB of ram on DDR2 for so long and by the time I needed more RAM the price had gone astronomically high. so this time round I'm going to buy the other 8GB while I can get it for £26.99 and by the time I need more ram I'll be desperate for a new CPU etc too (in about 5 years time hopefully as thats how long the Core 2 platform has lasted me).

I tend to multitask like crazy anyway, running diablo 3, itunes and 50+ tabs open in chrome as well as encoding video with handbrake, so more ram the better.

Ive decided to buy the BeQuiet cooler, everything arrives tomorrow, :) looking forward to putting it all together.

Thanks for all your help.

Not sure what cooler I have, its almost silent even under load at clock speeds though. Its a thermaltake contac silent or somewhere along those lines, can overclock to 4.6ghz too although its not so silent under load.
I also have a similar build for what your aiming for, I brought a package deal with all of those specs for £340 delivered off fleabay, with 3570k, z77 v-lx mobo, 8gb corsair xms3 ram and cooler, I can send you a link if you like so you can get a general idea budget wise.

I suggest when you get it to enquire about speedfan as the cooler you bought can dissipate over 130W of heat, nearly twice what your CPU will put out at maximum load. This essentially means you can tweak the fan to run more slowly.

Also, you should be able to reduce processor voltage to reduce heat even more. Undervolting is just as much fun as overclocking.

Completely forgot to plug the fan in for almost 2 hours, even did some prime95 testing and the cpu temp never went over 70C then, so may be able to run the bequiet passive as i have two noctua fans drawing air through it from above anyway.

Will do some more testing later and keep an eye on the temps, make sure it wont overheat while running passive, otherwise i really need to find the PWM cable for my zalman fan controller, never used it before and i seem to have lost the spare cables.

Anyone have any suggestions for replacing the stock fan at the front of my 650D? The 200mm fan they supply with it is bloody noisy compared to the rest of the system even when turned all the way down.

Edit: Re-tested running prime95 passive and the temps hit 95C so put the fan back on. I have however found my cables for the fan controller so now i can keep it quiet when its idle.
