AMD FX-Vishera Processors to Bring 7% IPC and 7% Frequency Improvement over FX-Bulldozer

It's not a GPU bottleneck, it's a CPU bottleneck :p

:D

The thing is though, there will always be CPUs that will give less fps (and indeed performance generally) in certain circumstances. Just as there will always be GPUs that return lower fps and hard drives that read and write at varying speeds. As long as that's classified by it's relative price it's not an issue for me.

It's fake!!!!

Not saying it won't be true though. :p

You've just put me off purchasing a new GPU!

I've got a Phenom II 975 running at stock 3.6Ghz and a 5850 and i was set on swapping to a 7870. Even if i overclock the CPU to about 4Ghz am i bottlenecking the card? If so will it be to the extent that it makes the purchase pointless?

Would appreciate your thoughts.

EDIT: No matter, i'm ordering it anyway!

Should be fine @ 4Ghz http://abundantcores.blogspot.co.uk/p/a-cpu-can-bottleneck-and-gpu-in-gaming.html

That's an overclocked 7870 (1200 / 1500) it's running about as fast as a 7950 Ghz Edition.
With 4 cores @ 3.6Ghz there is no bottleneck with the game settings maxed, but the CPU is working for it at 83%, at 4Ghz you should have some wiggle room.

Anyway, according to that IPC is up 5%, if so that will reduce the clock for clock / core for core performance deficit compared to Thuban to 10%, down from 15%.

With that in mind the FX-8350 would need to run at 4.4Ghz to match an average overclocked Thuban in single threaded performance.

That's not good, but it's not bad either. An FX-8150 / 8120 will do 4.4Ghz on air, i would think this could do 4.6Ghz on air.

Still way behind a 3570K in single threaded performance, it would need to be £140 to be viable

He's commenting on a faked set of benchmarks anyway. :o

A mod needs to change the thread title to something like 'Fake Vishera Benchmarks Spotted'.

any word on when we might actually see something real on piledriver?

Something this quarter, I can't see it being that far off (Wouldn't be surprised to see near the end of this month/early next month), we already have the next generation cores in Trinity.

Ha, thing is, a lot of Zambezi benchmarks got put down as fake, but when Zambezi launched? The benchmarks we'd seen were nigh on their performance, unlucky coincidence?

That said, I take anything with a gain of salt, these benchmarks included.

would be nice to see something before xmas, I've been following trinity as overall I like it and would entertain one for an itx build to replace my old Athlon ii x3 machine, but i'm still underwhelmed by its cpu performance tbh, Its definetly an improvement, but tbh its just reminded my how big the gap is.

I hope that AMD can get something released that is pretty good performance wise for the price in comparison to Intel soon, would much rather have an AMD based machine. That is the AMD tinted specs I have on!. Fingers crossed.

I hope so too, not because I have any preference really, if ford, tandy, or my hamster came out with a great cpu tomorrow i'd buy it, but I do feel the way amd are going with the apu's is really important to the future of computing, and tbh i'm not really sure why they are pursuing the route they have chosen with bulldozer etc, ok in the long term yes maybe it makes some sense but right now and for the foreseeable future no, but then they presumably know what they are doing!, have to hope so anyway.

Given how close we are to launch, I wouldn't be surprised if the "fake" benchmarks are real, regardless of the CPUZ error, that said, I can quite clearly see the CPUZ indications that it may be fake.

Trinity was predicted for 02/10/2012 those same people said 23/10/2012 for the FX-8350, Trinity was release on 02/10/2012, bang on...

Having said that the source of these benchmarks are 2 Moths old, and they look suspiciously like the ones that Chinese site pulled up even longer ago.

Until they appear on Tom's Hardware or TPU or Overclockers.com and the like all of it is to salty for my taste :)

I liked this part in the comments. Though I have no idea who he is as I really do not follow this techie info on things like this.

It is true that AMD have hired Jim Keller. Rumours are that Jim will be redesigning/improving the steamroller cpu. He is a hot shot cpu designer and he has about 15 months of R&D to pull out all the stops to make steamroller very respectable.

Was he there when AMD were doing well with the Athlon X2's?

Yes that's him, he was the one responsible for the Intel beating Athlon XP / 64. http://venturebeat.com/2012/08/01/apple-cpu-jim-keller-amd/

He's back at AMD where he belongs, tho i suspect he will be concentrating more on Tablet CPU's than Desktop, Incidentally AMD have just released their first Tablet APU.
