**WINDOWS 8 NOW AVAILABLE FROM OCUK!!**

No, it's hyperbol.

W8 is extremely good for gaming, it's got insane boot times.

Despite what you have heard steam and everything else works just fine on it.

I've been using Win8 since it RTM'd via my company account. With the latest updates and drivers all my games run as fast and as smooth as they did with Win7.

Can't argue with the upgrade price of £49.99 (if I recall only available at this price until Jan 2013?), some nice enhancements once you remove a number of the default metro apps and set defaults for photos/music/video files back to photo viewer/media player etc.

And the start screen is no where near as bad as people would have you believe, I actually quite like it now having got used to it. Works quite well as a dashboard for quick info.

May be tempted to buy but will leave till early next year when people have had a good go with it.

If you have Windows 7 there's no need to upgrade to 8 in regards to gaming.

Personally I despise the new start screen. It just feels unnecessary and too touch screen friendly.

Windows 8 is probably something i won't upgrade to straight away, I like loads of the new features that have gone into it (new task manager is awesoooooome) but i feel its not an essential upgrade like when i went from xp to windows 7.

No more having to install 3rd party bloatware to open up, mount, or create ISO files
^ Don't have bloatware imgburn/daemon tools does that easily

hmm can't say i see anything of interest that really stands out over windows 7 with or without games

I quite like Win8, start screen takes a little getting used to and the blocking of files downloaded is something to remember but the OS itself seems pretty stable, fast and has quite a few built in features that previously I would need to find an install to do.

Task manager is improved, the airplane mode is handy for laptops, SkyDrive integration is nice, the App APIs show promise, built in AV and the search is pretty good too.

From a purely aesthetic point of view I am quite liking the new flat look of Win 8 and associated software and IE10 finally comes with a built in spellchecker! :D

this vista all over again?

It will see success with tablets and the new wave of touchscreen laptop and ultrabooks I mean the OS under the hood is an improvement rather then the backwards step Vista took.

However for any mouse and keyboard user or PC gamer in general W7 provides the better experience having used W8 for about a month a few months back.

Metro isn't a good thing but the rest sounds cool I guess

Metro is a great thing, if you don't like it, desktop is there in all it glory UN molested and works perfectly.

However after using modern mobile devices, have you not felt desktops OS have felt old and the fact you actually have to launch applications to see info. Metro solves that. No longer do you have to launch anything to see if you have a new email, what the weathers doing, if you have a new instant message, etc etc etc.

Isn't it cheaper directly from Microsoft on release? they're doing an 'upgrade' for like £35 or £40
