Hello all, I've recently decided that my (10 watt) speakers from my tv may need an upgrade (so anything really is going to seem far better) anyways, been looking around (briefly mind you) and realised that there is quite a few options out their and I'd appreciate any advice on what the best price/performance speakers I can get.
My usage is pretty general, bit of music, but mostly good lot of movies and gaming, if I'm not using my tv speakers I use my headphones (HD 215 sennheiser I was bought), tbh I'd prob. use my headphones more frequently because they offer a better sound quality (could just be the placebo effect lol).
My price range is around £80 pound (not great but will be better than TV speakers), however I am also somewhat limited on space in my room (hence 2.1 and not 5.1 :( ) they will have to sit on a desk, which only really has my tv on and mousepad but a lot of the speakers I see seem quite big to be sitting on a desk.

Speakers I've seen that I like/seen good reviews of are:

Creative GigaWorks T40 Series II (know these are only 2.0 btw but as I said a lot of options and I'm pretty open to recommendations)
JBL Creature III 2.1

but really I'm open to any and all suggestions (i.e. if you think I'd benefit from getting a quality headset instead etc)

Many thanks - Mark.

I'm more of a speakers than a headset user myself so I would always say get a decent speakers before getting a quality headset.

The speakers you have chosen there have completely opposing characteristics, I have owned the T20 speakers and they are very bright sounding with punchy instead of booming bass.

I have also owned the creature II which I owned for 1 day as I thought they were very naff sounding, and I was comparing them to a set of logitech z4 which cost a bit less than the creature's. Just about the only area I thought they excelled was the aesthetics which were very characteristic and successful.

You have a few realistic options, you could opt for the creative T40's which will give you enough volume to fill a medium sized room with a reference kind of sound aesthetic but with a distinct lack of booming bass which may leave you cold.

You could save up the pennies for a 2.1 set that is £100+ such as the oft reccomended acoustic energy aego m which would be a fantastic option.

Or you could spend the same amount of money you would on the T40's for a 2.1 set such as a Logitech or Microlab. Possibly risk having a sound charecteristic that is swamped by bass because at this price level you usually find that the manufacturer has overloaded the satellites with a booming sub in order to "excite" listeners into thinking they've spent their money wisely ie with tons of volume.

Thats for the info! much obliged, I've had a look at the A.E.A.M. and they do look nice, but on average they seem to be around 120-140 (after postage) which is a bit over budget but I might be able to put off buying speakers for a bit if it involves getting a solid set of speakers that will do me for a while :)

Whatever you end up choosing, a decent set of speakers/headphones is definitely worth it in the end :)

So I decided to get the Acoustic speakers, birthday coming up soon so I went halfs on them, thanks for the advice, with no where around here to walk in really and see first hand needed some advice thanks :).

Good choice, you'll love them! They're also pretty small, much smaller than I was expecting.
