IMO fps games in general are exceptionally shallow. The closest game I really enjoyed was deus ex, since then no fps game has been able to hold my interest, its just simply running around and blindly shooting everything with no need for thought or strategy.
And its even worse to see the RPG genre slowly inch towards FPS games in terms of ease, dumbing down, simplistic gameplay, zero thought stimulation other than 'see bad guy, shoot bad guy dead'.
The worst thing is that the PC gaming community goes nuts over the graphics in these games and use them as primary benchmarks to assess gaming performance. They tend to be the biggest examples where the developers focus 95% of their effort on creating a shiny graphics engine, and 5% to making yet another mediocre FPS game.
