*****Official Star Wars: The Old Republic Thread*****

hehe yeh sub 50 pvp with the PT was always, shall we say, easy. That is largely due to excessive desire to always focus on melee toons, since, well, they are the ones trying to carve your face off. Rather than the guy trying to set your arse on fire, or throw toy missiles at you from a safe distance. Personally, i used to love forcing ranged toons into kiting me.

Speaking of used to, how is this game nowadays? Kinda bored and would rather avoid getting a social life just yet :p

Range on the PT was nerfed on last patch though so not quite as easy!

Game is in a great state imo - lots going on, big patch just came out and another being tested atm.

On the powertech front... I have to disagree. Watch this and then see the damages at the end ; ;

Yea but Nanox is one of the best VG going - he is in my guild; he is a terrible terrible tank though hahaha; also he has Ny'sha pocket healing him who is one of the best healers going too!

/edit

Anyway, don't disagree they are powerful; just mean they did take a bit of a hit in 1.4

(i also have a 50 Powertech!)

Whilst I'm not arguing Nanox's skill, pressing 2 buttons does not require any skill whatsoever and the fact he still pumps out 600k plus shows exactly how broken the class is.

Game is great, class balance is absolutely laughable. No sensible RWZ team will take any healers other than operatives, DPS normally consists of guardians / sentinals and then either a vanguard and assassin for tanking.

I have my fingers crossed they'll be doing something to address this in 1.5 but looking at their previous attempts at balance it's unlikely they'll do anything. 7k AOE's do not a balanced game make.

Totally agree. I have a lot of fun on my Gunslinger and can put out some respectable numbers but I know any serious ranked group would not contain one.

I too play on The Red Eclipse.

Slingers/Snipers definately have a place in RWZ teams, they're just harder to be effective with compared to the boring melee trains that are going around at the moment.

Sages/Sorc are very very good atm in PvP, the bubble stun is really effective against melee and the the root on Overload & Force Wave is a really good counter aswell.

Out of interest, how many Ranked Warzones have you guys actually played and to what rating, to be coming to these conclusions?

Sure they can be very effective but in my opinion they don't definitely have a place in RWZ which is sad. Other classes can compete with my DPS/ burst but bring a lot more utility. In the current patch I can't think of a reason why a ranked team would prefer a Slinger/Sniper to say another Assassin/ Shadow if they really wanted to win the next ranked game... maybe if you can guarantee a Hutball, a Slinger/ Sniper would be very useful for mid control but not essential.

^ I actually agree.

I have played about 20 games. My comments are not based just on my RWZ experience! I would like to note however, I'm not calling for any buffs to the Slinger/ Sniper as I actually think they are quite balanced. I output 300k (rarely less) - 700k damage each WZ whilst not dieing much, using around 5 different spec's depending on my mood and I have a lot of fun. It's just the synergies and utility of other classes makes my Slinger/ Sniper rather redundant in RWZ at the highest level.

Sab specced gunslingers are good for cap prevention but do you know what's better for cap prevention? 4 guardians sweeping 1300 expertise characters for 7k+ each.

The design of every warzone benefits this massive cleave attack as players will constantly be fighting over choke points, healers cannot keep players up when they're being exposed to that level of AOE so the skirmish will be lost along with the node.

You can succeed with virtually and class setup but please don't mistake what's possible in theory to what works well in practice. Class balance is absolutely horrible at the moment and it needs to be addressed.

I'm on about 50 RWZ games in total, no idea what my rating is but i would imagine about 1400? I'll have to check when I get in. Knockback is handy but I'm pretty sure guardians have a push back and so do assassins, as for the melee bubble; i'm a melee character and it really isn't a big deal.

What's worse is that this sweeping/smashing malarkey isn't restricted to those single sabered knights/ Warriors. The double saber variants are at it too :O and the're damage output is simply amazing.

You're preaching to the choir here mate. There are lots of mara/sent/guard/juggs posting screenshots of 900k+ damage and I know that even if people stood still and did nothing my character could not produce that output even with bis gear.

The video above shows a vanguard hitting 600k using 2 buttons and whilst I can hit 600k, I have to play an absolte blinder to hit those numbers. In a ranked warzone a few nights back a guardian hit 5 players and the lowest hit was 6.7k, the highest was 7.8k.

Using the lowest value that's 33K in one hit yet people complain about operative burst and we get nerfed :)

So using the above as an example, there were 3 other smasher / sweepers in that team so we're looking at a combined 134K in aoe damage from 1 gcd each. You cannot heal through that and it will win you games, especially as the games are designed to force players into groups.

Agreed about the Sage/Sorc - ND norm have 2 Scoundrel healers, they took me once, baring in mind I am Battlemaster so a bit more squishy and being targeted i barely did any decent healing, think i hit 300k on voidstar when I'd normally hit 6-700ish. We still won quite convincingly but the heals were def lacking!

Oh, and yea I get your point on nanox, but if you look he wasnt almost using 2 skills, full auto went off a few times and he had nysha keeping him alive so no deaths/running back to battle - but agree still easy to do damage.
