Gary McKinnon day of judgement

I think he will be gone and i agree that he should. The "Was on UK soil" when he comitted the crime surely cant stand. What if he had managed to access and overload a nuclear powerstation in the US killing millions? Would he then not face extradition because he was not physically there?

Only the Americans and Israel like to break into other countries nuclear facilities and sabotage them.

Cant say I agree with this. He should have been extradited in my view. He did the crime, admits it and should be tried for it by the authorities who's law was broken, aka the US

I'm actually very surprised by how many in this thread agree with his extradition. I personally am very happy it's been blocked, in my eyes he's not a criminal, there was no malicious intent & the sentancing he faced in America was very disproportionate to his actions.

About time we started to say no to the yanks but lets not lose sight of why this was done. The Torys are desperate and this is a move to get win over some public confidence is their failing regime.

Win over a few people who actually understand the issues behind it? Don't be soft. It's a victory for common sense, nothing more.

What if Hamza would have said that? What if the next person who commits a US crime says it? Do we keep hold of them all?

The guy has been diagnosed with asperger syndrome, he has a legitimate reason to not be shipped off to the US, it's not just coz his mum says so.

They also claimed he done x amount of damage where x is millions however all he done was nosy around.
Why not give him a job in computer security?

So if a USA citizen hacks our military but doesnt mean any malicious intent we shouldnt pursue that? Lets not kid anyone here, he knew exactly what he was doing, knew it was illegal and should answer for that.

If our military leaves servers with their default passwords they deserve nothing but contempt.

Yes, he should be tried, but under UK law.

Because it doesn't take that much work to knock up a perl script to ping an IP looking for net facing boxes, then write another that attempts a log in on those IPs, filtering out those that are and aren't password protected. Write a hook to a brute force library and you can attempt to login to boxes all day and night, unless they have a login timeout for number of incorrect attempts.

Knowing how to securely lock down systems properly is much more complicated and resource intensive (in terms of maintaining that security) than skidding to get in.
