So im 23, working full time straight out of uni. Looking for a weekend car that can tow (Rules out a lot of stuff actually)

Noticed I can insure a 330 clubsport for about 800-900quid and theyre selling at around 5k for a 60k-80k mile version.

Just wanting to know if this car has any major services or pitfalls around this stage of life that seems to be making them look like really good value.

My annual mileage is only about 5k as I commute by motorbike and it doesnt have to be the fastest/best handling car alive as I race for my thrills- Just needs to be comfy, fun, able to tow and respectable looking (ambigious I know)

Any owners on board? Thoughts? Aslong as MPG is 25+ then id be a very happy camper.

I'd just stick to the regular 330 ci sports myself, unless you can get a CS for no additional cost.

There's zero performance difference between the two for a start.

Ill stick my hand up and say right now I dont know my BMW's

So theres 330, 330 sport (M-sport?) and club sport?

Just looking at the coupes here ofcourse.

The Clubsport is a Sport but with different wheels, a cool wing and a bit less soundproofing.

Nice to have but not worth specifically seeking out.

What do you want to tow?

Look out for when the car has had an inspection II service. These cars go on the older service cycle of:

Oil service
Inspection I
Oil service
Inspection II

etc etc.

You just need to make sure these services have been done properly. Servicing every 10-15k miles is something to look out for. Suspension refresh around 60-80k miles will be needed, especially at nearly 10 years old. Although some of this may have been done on MOT's (front control arm bushes sometimes get caught in MOT's when they're really worn).

Anyway, yeah, to get the best from the car, assuming it has had no suspension work done - budget for some new ARB bushes, front control arm bushes and rear trailing arm bushes. This in total should cost around £200 from a BMW specialist. Also, do the ARB links while you're at it as they're only like £10 a side.

This is exactly what it'll be. The E46 still looks fantastic, providing it has suspension refresh it should handle brilliantly, it should be firm, but not too firm and have power all throughout the rev range.

Should get 25mpg avg quite easily. 33-35mpg on a run is easily done also.

Aren't they just 330i's with some bolt ons?

Pretty much. Removal of some sound deadening, new (2 piece?) wheels and a dodgy looking spoiler. Other than that, it's just a 330ci. The best thing about the 330CS was that it was available in Estoril Blue.

I concur.

There is 330SE, 330 Sport (which got rebranded M-Sport in 2004) and then there is this 330 Clubsport.

Ah, thanks.

Im simply towing a motorbike so no massive strain to the car.

Edit- Thanks Gaygle for that, much appreciated :)
