Right guys, need some advice on how to handle this.

Last week, I started a new job, which was good. The first week was to see how I got along, then on the friday they said they liked me and would like to offer me the 6 month contract. Now, I havn't signed anything yet for this bare in mind.

On the wednesday of my first week at this place, I had a call that I was being put forward for another head office role which I wanted more then the current place i'm at. So I said i'll interview on tuesday morning.

Yesterday, I was sick at about 10am at work, so I went home early and then had the interview this morning so took today off as well, saying I was still ill.

I've just been told i've been successful for the interview which is amazing because the company is great and it's what I wanted but how would you go about telling the other place?

I said i'll finish the week off, then on the friday tell them i've been offered a job I applied for a few weeks ago before this one came about. My dad on the other hand thinks I should be fair and tell them tomorrow so they can find a replacement.

What do you think?

in the grand scheme of things 3 days is not going to make a difference, telling them now or telling them on friday is fine, unless you plan to tell them on friday and not go back to work on the monday!

Personally i would be telling them tomorrow when you go back, but like i said its not going to make a massive difference in the grand scheme of things.

You should probably tell them as soon as you find if you've been successful in getting the other job. Wasn't sure from what you posted if you were, just said successful in the interview. Though to be fair, you should tell them and give them as much notice as possible.

It wouldn't hurt if you told your new job after they offered you the job that you would have to give notice as your current place of employment, its fairly acceptable.

Yeah I was successful on getting the job Antowns.

I havn't signed anything for the job i'm currently at.

I just though the extra money in my account for this week would be nice?

telling them and leaving are two different things!

if you plan on telling them tomorrow and then not returning to work, then i would tell them on friday and get the weeks pay in full.

Listen to your dad, you might get a few looks as you were off and suddenly a wild job appears but who cares, really?

So go in tomorrow and say "I've been offered a new job at another head office which I was interviewed for a few weeks before this came about and i've decided to accept their offer".

I guess then I would be shown the door?

Work/companies don't really owe you anything - it's up to you how you feel about changing jobs. :) However make sure you get something signed first before you do anything :) Think about what you want to achieve :)

Sign contract for new job before telling old employer byeeeee, because if you tell them your off, & your new employer goes and gets someone even more suitable for the job before you've signed on the dotted line, your going to be left in one helluva lousy position.

We had this for our team, somone went for an interview and they said "yeh you have the job", he came in the next day and basically gave his "im leaving" and 5 mins later left.

Turns out the job fell through and he e-mailed our production leader asking for his job back, he laughed and forwarded it onto our boss who also laughed and deleted the mail.

(helped he was a complete tool so we all found it funny).
