Hi everyone,

I am looking to build a PC purely for gaming and have around 700 to spend (keyboard has no pound key). To give this some context I used to be primarily a console and mac user, never really got into pcs and need the mac for work. When Valve released Steam for mac I guess I have been slowly converted and am ready to build my own.

I found this build whilst digging on the forums and it seems perfect for the amount of money I have to spend.

Just wanted to re-post as the original thread was a few months old to see if it was still worth buying. I have Windows 7, monitor, keyboard and mouse.

Finally, the difference I am looking for is in the frame rate. I can't stand jumpiness on my xbox and I'm hoping to play games like Skyrim and Borderlands 2 without those issues, not necessarily the best graphical quality. Also, how upgradable is this going to be over the next few years?

Ton of questions I know!

Thank you for any help in advance.

That's about the same as my PC (6950), and I max borderlands 2 easily. Skyrim too, although you can encounter frame rate drops here and there but it's just the way the game is coded, really.

In any case, that's a good build.

You can drop the SSD for a more powerful GPU or better all-round components (case).

I don't know about the CPU cooler, should be OK.

Don't know about the case, looks cheap.

Hard drive, I'd probably spend a little more for a WD.

Motherboard, could go with the cheaper Z77-D3H, spend the difference on the case.

I'm going with exactly what you put in the basket. Will post back when completely ready to buy, most likely Monday. I have changed graphics cards and things a few years back but this will be my first ever build from scratch. I've looked up the process and with patience it shouldn't be too complicated. My only question is, does the psu come with a power lead or do I need to get one? Could there be anything else I need?
