Nvidia Tesla T20 info

Next year, the GK110 graphics chip land on GeForce graphics cards. Is rumoured to be ready in March 2013 at the earliest - then finds coincidentally next Nvidia GPU Technology Conference in San Jose.

What does this mean then.

Going on the clock speed 705mhz, the power usage 225 Watts, and possible yield problems (using 13 SMX clusters instead of 15) this all adds up to poor performance/value for money compared to a HD 7970 or GTX 680.

If nvidia up the clock speed for use in a geforce card this will increase power usage/heat quite a bit. It could use more power/produce more heat than a GTX 480.

Thanks, for the feed back. Bit of a backward step, considering newer series needing less power than previous series cards.

Having read a fair bit about GK110, it certainly isn't aimed at gamers. Maybe at some stage they will sort out a refresh of the 680/670 the same as AMD are doing with the 8970.

Time will tell :)

Well then the leaked info some weeks ago about that nVidia has a totally different chip ready for the GeForce series might turn out right after all - GK114 ?

Ah so they looked into their crystal ball and figured out that the next series of cards are going to up the performance across the range, with midrange cards being similar in performance to the currant top end.

Hmm Ive just looked into the bottom of my tea cup and the tea leaves tell me the same thing. Or is it just that is the way its been happening for the last god knows how many generations.

Sorry Jakus this isn't a dig at you, or it certainly wasn't meant to be just at the whole article.

+1

There was one word that kept cropping up in the article

Could, Could, Could, Could......

Just going to kick start my pig - I have to fly off to work in a minute.

I would welcome that with open arms give me a beast which needs to be watercooled and thenn overclocks like a demon and get my moneys worth from my 1200w PSU!!! :D:D
