Good Cheap Server - HP Proliant Microserver 4 BAY - OWNERS THREAD

Ah ok...so there is nothing wrong with my new memory then? Bit of a bargain in that case for 16GB.

Even though I'm a complete moron as it came with 1GB then I bought 2GB first of all. Then I decided I wanted 4GB instead.... then later I decided I wanted to run an SBS 2008 install on it and that needed 4GB minimum itself so I took the 4GB out and bought 8GB. Now I've gotten greedy and taken the 8GB out and put in 16GB LOL

Such a ****.

That's reassuring though :) Thanks!

haha, sounds familiar!

Honestly... seems expensive to me but I can't work out why

you are pretty much paying £140 + vat for 16GB of ECC Ram to come installed.
which is probably a wee bit more than it would cost to get the RAM separately.

server all built...

40L
4GB - Will upgrade at some point..
3*3TB WD Reds...will get a 4th drive when funds allow...
HP Smart Array P410....

Next up OS install.....thinking I give Server 2012 a try...

Any one thinking of running TV tuners. I have mine set up with DVBviewer and 3 tuners in 2 SD and 1 HD using kworld £17 sticks for the SD and 290-E for HD for £50. It takes a lot of setting up, but the picture quality and the EPG system. It means I can record up to about 10 channels at one time as DVBviewer can record all channels off the same mux the tuners are on. It will also stream to any clients or over the internet. If you are interested in TV or not missing anything this is the perfect low power PVR. Cost of viewer program about £18 it's the recording software that makes it so powerful. It will work under WinHomeServer, but mine is on win2008.

I bought this box filled it a raid card and used it relatively infrequently for backing up. Now I can't not see it been used all time and makes it much more viable. With MCE remote and intelliremote software it's now perfect. The quality of the picture is broadcast quality too better than my on my TV through Sky. I will stream Downton Abbey to my Projector this weekend and I think from what I have seen it will blow away HD Sky picture.

Just found one of these bad boys for £149, with £100 cashback this is mega tempting! Can anyone try push me into buying one? As for £49 after the rebate this is a steal.

The base spec I get is AMD Turion 1.5GHz, 2GB RAM and 250GB HDD. I'm contemplating just buying this, then grabbing 16GB RAM and a couple of 1/2TB hard drives from OcUK on the cheap.

Someone encourage me and outline more of the benefits, it's only £49! :D

Edit: Would it be worth whacking a 60/120GB SSD into this for the OS?

It's from the rain forest place via an authorised reseller, all legit. :)

He's not an authorised seller.

Edit, read his reviews:

"Product falsely advertised - seller prevents you claiming HP cashback deal but does not state that in the info. Order apparently dispatched immediately meaning I fall into a return rather than a cancellation! Not impressed. Do not purchase anything from this seller."

As far as i know non of the rainforest resllers are legit - i thought it is because the rainforest is based in germany

There are some messages on their forum from people stating they have got their cashback but to check the seller is on the list of authorised resellers.

Thinking of getting one of these myself and just trying to find the best deal but all seem pretty similar.

if using amazon then safest option is just to buy direct from Amazon rather than one of the third partys.
The first one i bought was from valid HP reseller through Amazon but turns out the stock wasn't meant for the UK so the cashback was refused. The reseller was being naughty lol.
returned it, bought from Amazon and got cashback no problem
