Hot New BMW M135i

Hi there

Harris says it all between 12-13 minutes, the Audi has understeer, followed by more understeer then followed by horrific understeer.

Since the RS4, Audi just seem to be going backwards, having driven the RS5, S5, TT RS this does seem a major issue for them as their cars are just plain and simple DULL and I repeat more DULL to drive. They now only have one decent car, which is the R8, a big shame as their cars look awesome, they just drive like crap!

Really want to like 1 Series ... .. . no sorry I can't it's just too ugly! (M135i does look like a whole bag of ugly fun though)

Indeed! Although i am an Audi fan, it looks as though they've gone for looks, power and status and ignored everything else.

X amount so power, 4 Wheel drive, Sleek looks......Sold! Oh wait..... it's drives like poo and is quite boring...
Damn expensive as well, like seriously.

Good review.

It seems as though the BMW trounces the Audi in almost all areas, despite being avaliable for £10000 less. And its nice to hear BMW still know how to make an engine sound good.

I hated how the new 1 series looked when it first came out, but i also correctly predicted that it would grow on me and i now really, really like the look of it in M135i form.

Have any of you calling it ugly actually seen an M135i in the flesh?

Didn't think so.

(It looks much better than the standard 1 series which I admit is pretty awful!)

Whilst it's not the most beautiful car in the world I just don't personally think it's ugly.

I actually really like the looks :S
So for me its a no brainer :) I REALLLY want one.
Imo the new shape 1 series looks way better irl.

The fact he got 38mpg from it! That engine blows the competition out the water.

I REALLY want one too.

You spend all the money you saved on petrol on replacement high pressure fuel pumps though, right ;)

I think it's great and would have one over the VAG offering any day, it needs a diff though.

Seems like the monkey has quite the anti-Audi agenda in that video though. Understeer sucks, sure, but the car was faster even though it was on Contis and the BMW was on Pilot super sports. You can't just gloss over that.

I don't think it was anything against Audi as a company at all. I think he was being objective in highlighting the Audi RS3's shortcomings. He didn't make wild or baseless accusations (as far as i remember) and backed up his opinion with fact. On the lap, that Audi looked like a pig to drive fast, whereas the M135i seemed to glide around corners without much drama apart from the odd tail flick.

Not to mention that you expect a car that costs 25% more to destroy the competition, rather than the other way around.

Agree. It's depressing most other hot hatches are going down the 4-pot turbo route. This thing has a proper 3 litre petrol engine and it sounds awesome. Boom!

A lot of people are saying it needs an LSD but at the end of the day it isn't an M car. It's supposed to be a daily driver with exhilarating performance not a track car. If I wanted the ultimate driver's (or a weekend) car I'd get a 1M, if I wanted something to commute to work to on a daily basis I'd have the M135i. It's comfortable and stupidly rapid given its understated appearance!

It has got one, active diff like that with a clutch pack allows variable active control on the torque bias between wheels unlike a fixed mechanical. Dont confuse it with the electronic diff on VAG FWD that just brake an inside wheel.

Its the next step up from a mechanical LSD.

Really? Was under the impression is was an open diff with a fake LSD effect using the rear brakes.
I know the latest model M cars have an electronically controlled LSD though.
