ASUS MATRIX HD 7970 Platinum Video Card Review

The lightning BE would still be held back by its 1.35v soft limit, the matrix will do 1.4v standard and more with a simple jumper....MSI are now playing catch up imo.

Edit: above guru review the only manage 1275mhz at 1.3v...

Wont be the fastest stock 7970 for long, the 7970 lightning BE will be landing in a couple of weeks, with a 1150 boost clock, depends how the thing overclocks though, arn't the newer tahiti chips meant to be better??

On average the new "Ghz" edition HD7970's (and their eqvuivilant HD7950's) seem to overclock to around the same level as their non Ghz contempories.

There doesn't seem to be much evidence that they are any better apart from being faster out of the box.

Is it just me or does it seem odd to anyone else that they are only getting 50 to 60 FPS for the top end Nvidia and AMD cards on Sword Breaker?

Seems very low to me.

Is the reason why THIS thread now exists :)

I will run OP:Swordbreaker this morning (full mission bench) and update that thread with results. Its maybe not a million miles away from correct, they do have 4xAA+HBAO enabled.

I bench it from when you get out the LAV to when you clear the house with the rockets coming out of it.

This is the standard benchmark for this mission I think...

I will also run sword breaker (not sure how far in that is).

Its the first mission of the game, you should be able to select it from the campaign menu.

It is what I see used most for BF3 benchmarking as its said its the closest in SP that you'll get to MP demands, though it still isn't going to be as demanding as 64 player + big map.

@humbug, if you could, run some benches for other games and post them in the benchmarks thread, we only have 7970/680 results at the moment.

Interesting you guys mention this i played this mission yesterday i can confirm the fps did drop down into the 50's as it did in that benchmark with AMD/Nvidia cards. However my average fps were much higher than in that review due to my overclock. :)

I'll do it, you want base line stock (925/1375) or moderate OC (1200/1600)?

That is what the benchmark thread is for :).

I'm trying to compare the difference the cpu might make, if any, to the minimum fps.

I guess if anything it would make more of a difference online though than offline.

At first i thought it wouldn't make any difference at all, but after looking at other 7970 users minimums mine do seem to be a tad lower.

Just wondering whether an i7 with extra cores/threads would improve my minimums and trying to find some official benchmarks which document min/avg/max. :)

In that one i posted they have an i5 like me.

Ah OK, I see.

Yeah more of a difference online definitely.

I can run one when I get in at stock 680 clocks if you like, i.e. roughly level to the 7970? At work till around 5:30 so someone may jump in before me and provide some data.

Edit: PGI is on it already :)
