Hey All,

If you were in the market for a F30 (320i xDrive M Sport) what options would be a must have??

I'm thinking:

Pro-Nav (Multimedia system pro)
Folding/Dimming Ext Mirrors
HUD
Xenons
Interior Comfort Pack
Sport Auto
Business Speakers
F+R PDC
19" Alloys

Also I've heard that the Servotronic Steering (Not the Variable one) is quite light even at motorway speed. Does anyone have any experience with the basic steering (is it better)??

Thoughts?

I'd have go for Pro Nav, Leather and Xenons. I'd also trash the pointless xDrive and spend the saving on making it a 328i M Sport instead.

Not a fan of the xDrive Mr Fox??

No. It's there to serve a purpose which is largely un-neccesary in the UK and leads to compromises in other areas in order to achieve this. It is slower, more expensive and less economical than the non xDrive variant.

They are very popular in more harsh climates but unless you really need it the car drives better without it. It doesn't turn a 3 Series into some sort of Lancer Evolution.

Very fair point. The speed difference is negligible however (0.1s). Handling and price are of a concern though.

0-60 is a fairly poor judge of speed though - especially as there will be an initial grip advantage off the line with an xDrive fitted car.

Plus for £1500 more than an Xdrive 320i you can have a regular 328i which is a noticeably faster car and no more expensive to run. It's absolutely where my money would go.

Yep, it's completely pointless unless you want to drive it in the 2 weeks of snow we may get this year? And even then, the tyres on it are not winter tyres. Spend the savings on a better model period. As Fox said, 328i is on the money if 4pot engine doesn't bother you.

By all accounts the 328 is supposed to be a really great car. Though I would rather have one in Luxury trim, all I keep seeing is white 320d sports :/

Whilst I see a lot of sports I don't see that many M sports at all.

There's an ED I park near when in the office at work in mineral grey and it actually looks pretty nice in the flesh. Just the front for me needs the M sport bumper.

As the others have said - go for the 328i M Sport.

If you're going to upgrade the speakers then don't brother with business speakers; go for the full HK setup. Business speakers aren't much different to the standard ones.

The steering is light in ECO and Comfort modes but it stiffens up a little as speed increases. In Sport mode the steering feel changes a lot. It's stiffens up a lot - almost like there is no power assist at all.

Whilst I see a lot of sports I don't see that many M sports at all.
The M Sport F30 has only been available for a couple of months. It usually takes a bit longer before you start seeing them mainstream on the road.

Personally I'd avoid the bigger wheels. IMO they offer no real benefit, but cost a lot and bugger up the ride quality.

328i,
328i,
Sorry what was that? Oh yeah right 328i.
Whats that over there? OHHH yeah look its a 328i.....
Have I made my point yet?
Buy a 328i

Anyone got any idea when the F31 will be available? My other half starts browsing for a new company car soon to get in Jan and has the 320d Touring/A4 Avant/C Class Estate/Passat Estate as options and I'm wondering if would likely be an E91 or F31?

The F31 is available now.

I know that, I almost had one, was just a response to the chap above who said he'd rather have lux trim as all he sees is sports. Just making sure people knew that a sport is not the same as m sport with this model :)

Is this the first generation of 3 series to have the 4wd version offered in the UK? Or has it just not been popular previously?

The last UK spec 4wd cars excluding X Series were the E30 325Xi and the E34 525Xi. We don't have the climate to justify having them really but it's perceived need not actual need that drives sales and because it snowed a bit for a few years on the trot half the UK seems to think we now live in Finland or something so presumably they will sell a few.

Not seen an F30 one yet but looking at the E90 XDrive models even the ride height is noticeably higher - it's a utility feature rather than a sporting feature a-la 4wd on a 911 or something, if that makes sense.

I can see why BMW want a 4x4 system as they are next to useless in ice and snow compared to other makes. Would be handy for very wet roads and flood areas maybe.

No they're not, it's just people don't understand (or have any experience of) how to drive rear-wheel drive cars in poor conditions.
