simple sabre rattling

north korea will not green light an artilery strike if they get leaflet droped. It would ammount to a gross over reaction to use deadly force in such a case and they technically would have nothing to gain from doing it.

New leader just looking to cement his place in the history books for being another crazy despot.

They are quite aware of what's going on as it is. They openly watch South Korean TV shows in the capital.

I was in a restaurant in Pyongyang and there was currently a power cut, we were there with guides and a government rep. There was a small karaoke machine with a TV in the corner and as soon as the power flickered all the staff ran out of the kitchen and put a DVD into the machine. A soap opera started playing, we could tell the language was Korean and after a couple of minutes we noticed some of the characters were wearing western sportswear so I'm pretty confident it was a South Korean drama.

We noticed that our guides and the government rep, plus a guy in military attire were all watching the program.

It would not surprise me that much. I doubt it will be the everyday peasants watching it but more likely the elite of North Korean society. Which from my understanding of North Korea tend to live in Pyongyang.

Well looking at their missile technology, if they do decide to try and launch missiles they will just kill themselves, or perhaps some harmless fish.

That's not how it will play out though. The most likely outcome is that there is an incident of some sort that spirals out of control. With the amount of artillery that NK has it could devastate SK before China had chance to step in.
