I defer to the knowledge of OCuK

A friend of mine works for a company and the boss is trying to cut his pay rate "because he's gone part-time"

Now my friend was full-time then went part time a while back (about 6-7 weeks ago & gave 4 weeks notice prior). He's hourly paid so he only gets paid what hours he works and there's no "official" contract with this company however he has worked there for a number of years prior to going part-time.

Now I'm pretty sure his employer can't do this but my friend would like some clarification if possible before he starts proceedings with ACAS.

Clarification needed: Cut his per hour wage? Or cut his hours so therefore paid less overall?

Contracts do not have to be in writing, so lets forget about that right now.
Anyway, it is also unlawful under the Equality Act 2010 for a part timer to be paid a lower hourly rate or pro rata salary than their full time counter part.
