Happy weekend all...

So ideally I'd be spending this money on a desktop but as that isn't possible, I'm looking at what laptops I can get for around £1200.

The two main games in mind that I'm intending on being able to play are Natural Selection 2 and Planetside 2. They're both still in beta currently so that doesn't make it THAT easy to gauge what sort of performance will be required at launch so I wanted to make sure that I spend a bit extra in order to have a little security in it.

The MSI GT70 0NC-016UK is currently benefiting from cashback AND this week only so that makes it an attractive deal. My only concerns slightly were the lack of SSD and the 670M. The SSD can be dealt with but I'm not sure about the card...

Can anyone offer some advice or comparable alternatives? Would be much appreciated!
Thanks

Check out the P150EM or P170EM Clevo based systems here on OCUK...should be able to get a i7 and 7970M for around that price. Will cruise through most current games at highest settings 1080p.

The MSI GX60 is also worth a look although might struggle a bit with CPU intensive games...which think PS2 is/will be. Howver for £899 it is great value.

Wouldn't get too hung up about an SSD for gaming...doesn't make a great deal of difference when actually playing IMO.

This really, the Clevo's are great for the price, and you can always upgrade to a SSD later down the line and it will be better price wise then.

Thanks, both. Struggled to match a few things for the same price, but for an extra £180ish can get the 7970M (which I believe is new gen of card to rival 680M?), losing out on RAM and storage space, but picking up an SSD and better CPU. Thoughts?

Any idea what the max refresh on the P170EM display might be?

Slightly disappointed by the P170EM display.... All that power but then only 8ms, 60Hz. Doesn't seem very gaming to me! Seems to be the case on almost all gaming laptops too. Seems an odd oversight imo.

Yeah I was looking at those and I think overall, it's better for me to get a better machine with a less fantastic screen than vice versa. I do have the option of getting a monitor at a later date, perhaps.

Thanks for the help, going to go with the P170EM spec above.

Np, I have the 15" version off that and the screen is much better then I expected, very good viewing angels, great colours, nice blacks.

I have the P170EM and I haven't had a single issue with the display, never noticed any ghosting or any other issues.

with the new driver release the 7970m absolutely flies!
