ASUS MATRIX HD 7970 Platinum Video Card Review

I was tempted to swap but then I'd lose 3D so decided it ain't worth losing that and then extra I'd have to pay on top of selling the 680's :).

Need to see some benches of these in crossfire on latest drivers in triple screen. Then I might be tempted :).

Same here. I'm still in DSR territory but as I want to try 3D I'll just miss it out this time and just be happy.

It does seem a cracker of a card though. Can't wait till someone on here can bench them. If you get one 8pack, do some air runs first please as we're not all Sub-Zero'd out of our head like you :p.

Benchmark thread updated with 7970 stock and OC scores :)

I just ran the same level, part and GPU overclock settings as you. Our results are identical but my minimum fps was slightly higher.

Sorry im not able to make a fancy bar chart yet. :(

yes but is it better than the lightning 7970.... if so then i'm interested too

Its not really any better or worse, over clocking wise they are both excellent t and your results will be down to the silicon lottery. They are certainly both built to take some voltage though :D

The only thing that is better on the matrix is possibly the cooler (triple slot), and definitely the display outputs. But there are no water blocks out for the matrix yet I doubt.

Both have pro's and con's, the Lightning is only dual slot but only has single link DVI, the matrix is triple slot but had dual link DVI.

As for overclocking, the Matrix has more potential but only in the hands of experienced overclockers. In one of the above reviews they managed ~1275mhz for 1.3v, which is possible one air on the Lightning also. 1.4v+ is when you will see which is the better card.

I don't believe reviews anymore especially when it comes to overclocking. AMD send cherry picked cards out on purpose.

Don't you mean ASUS / MSI etc send out the "cherry picked" to the reviewers?
As said, these cards would (i assume) have decent chips from AMD anyway.

ha ha hell yea !

BUT i cant think of a game that needs 1.4v on a 1080p tv, something tells me this is crazy, lets wait till the next gen AMD comes out.

Sorry mate :o

Yeah for people water cooling etc like PGI maybe 1.4v would help them push for that extra 50-100mhz

Both the lightning and a the matrix are made for those who really want to push the hardware to the limits. If you are just an air overclocker, you would probably be better off with just a good 7970 like the wind force and save some money.
