So, I've played Halo! Many many years ago, on the original Xbox. I also played it on PC when it was ported over. I actually enjoyed this one :)

I've played Halo 2, But didn't get overly far. I believe I stopped playing round about the time you take control of the Arbiter. Not overly sure why :D

I've never really played Reach, ODST or Halo 3. Not enough to get a real sense of the story. I just can't immerse myself in the universe, My limited love for First person shooters is probably responsible. I find them stale.

So here is me attempting to play the whole series from Halo 1 through to the up and coming Halo 4. I just had a peak at one of those new Live action videos and it has most definitely made me quite hungry to try and get involved in the series.

The universe has merit! I just wish it hadnt been a FPS game I suppose :D

So inorder to help me get immersed, I'd like to watch, read and play my way through the series.

Can anyone recommend any books? I've noticed there's an anime, where about is it set chronologically? Any prequel type books or movies out there?

:)

Play it on legendary, the halo games seem designed to be played on that difficulty and are a bag of **** if you don't :(

Didn't really like Halo Reach and I finished 3 in one evening, dissapointments really, Halo 1 was very good though

Well I'm currently making my way through the first one. After which I'll jump straight onto the second one, I think me and a friend will system link the rest of them on Legendary. Maybe I'll enjoy that a bit more.

Anyone interested in doing something similar to me in the run up to Halo 4. Here is the run down

Halo: Contact Harvest (Book)
Halo: The fall of reach (Book)
Halo: The Flood (Book) - Halo:Combat Evolved (Game)
Halo: The first Strike (Book)
Halo 2 (Game)
Halo: Ghosts of Onyx (BooK)

Thats what I have so far :D They're in chronological order.

There's also Halo legends, which is 7 episodes made by various studios, including creator of Appleseed! I believe the episodes are set during different times, So it's probably something to watch after finishing the above.

And then I'll play Halo3 afterwards :p

ODST fills in some of the gaps between Halo 2 and 3.

Halo Glasslands is the follow-on from Onyx, and then there's the Forerunner trio. (two out atm)

Play them in this order for chronological storyline:

Reach --> HALO (CE Anniversary) --> HALO2 (Xbox) --> ODST --> HALO3

Eurgh, I bet you're one of those people that watch star wars in episode order.

I never said I played them in that order, just that that is the chronological order of the games with regards to their storylines. :p

I played them like most folks:

HALO -> HALO2 -> HALO 3 -> ODST -> REACH

In their release order.

But for someone coming to the series and wanting to play through the storyline in the correct order, then its:

REACH -> HALO (CE Anniversary) -> HALO2 (Xbox) -> ODST -> HALO3

ODST is the worst game of the lot. I'll give you that the co-op multiplayer was a lot of fun, but the main game really struggled with the story, especially having a protagonist who chose to not say a word, despite people talking at you.

ODST is a rather different experience to the other HALO games, they mixed up the formula a lot.

I'd say Reach is my favourite campaign, followed by HALO. Was never too keen on HALO2 or 3.

I really enjoyed ODST, I loved the feeling of sneaking round the city. The soundtrack was superb and the voice acting (hello Firefly) was top notch. It was let down a little by the story and the silent protagonist (crazy decision, I really hate when games do this)

Halo was fantastic :)

The rest not so much :(

Funny, I really don't think the first stands the test of time. Maybe the remake was better, but I tried to play the original recently, and it's just a grind fest compared to the later ones, which have much better set pieces.

Book order...
Forerunner trilogy:
Cryptum
Primoridium

Silentium (not out til March :( )

Contact Harvest
Cole Protocol
Fall Of Reach
The Flood
First Strike
Ghosts of Onyx

Kilo 5 Trilogy:
Glasslands
Thursday War

TBA

I enjoyed all the books, and recommend them all, but the ones in bold are the ones id try and read before Halo 4

And pay attention to the terminals in CE:A and Halo 3 :)
