I am visiting Aus for a couple of weeks over Christmas and New Years, wondered if anyone here close to Melbourne wouldn't mind lending a sofa for a couple of nights :)

Have you tried couchsurfing.org ? Im assuming you want to sleep on it rather than just borrow one to sit on for a while :)

Only problem with couchsurfing is I believe you need some sort of feedback before people will let you sleep in their property, might have to let someone kip on yours first.

Just incase you turn out to be a cold blooded murderer? :p

I could imagine the types of feedbacks

"A++++ Excellent sofa surfer, no murders here"

Yeah pretty much :)

"3/5 Made me a delicious pancake breakfast every day, however woke up on final day to find left kidney removed. Pancakes were still waiting for me though."

Space was a decent hostel I stayed at in Melbourne. It was more like a budget hotel than hostel really.

Ended up staying there because I didn't realise I was going to be in Melbourne whilst the Melbourne cup was on and all the other hotels were booked out!

Asking random people on the internet for a place to crash is just asking to get a colonoscopy from an unlicensed practicioner.
