Surface, new iPad or Android tablet?

Fair enough. do u do a lot of graphics intensive work or play games?

Both :D and one of the laptops has a 120hz panel for 3D too.

I certainly don't think the pro is bad, but I'll just wait until there's no compromises for me - especially when I still have perfectly good hardware with lots of life left in it right now :)

I can see a potential massive cluster **** of confusion when some manufacturers start making 7" tablets that run Windows Phone 8, and others start making them running Windows 8 RT. If someone then also manages to make a 7" Windows 8 Pro tablet its going to be a minefield of "why does X not work on Y"?

They won't run wp8 I just added that there will also be more wp8 in new year as well as tablets.

Asus transformer book, discret gfx in the keyboard attachment, but not much details yet.

Heard that's a GT630M part though, so would still be a downgrade for me. Seriously though I don't need convincing, I'm just not chucking out perfectly good laptops for a hybrid, when the time is right I'll be replacing with hybrids. But for me that won't be for a while, and I'm not trying to convince anyone else either. In the meantime I'll be happy with a tablet for pure consumption use :)

I doubt we'll be seeing any 7" devices on either platform to be honest. Neither are exactly designed for it...

It seems no one has the same view of what an ecosystem is ;)

It doesn't really matter. Apps aren't that expensive, and most are rubbish or not needed.

If the OP wants to browse the web, play video, use facebook and that type of stuff, no doubt all 3 major OS will be fine.

If he wants productivity, or will use it for work the surface would probably be best since office is available for it.

If he mostly uses google products then no doubt Android might be best.

And he's already a mac or iphone user and likes the way that works then the ipad could be best.

That's assuming he isn't already using one of those OS and fancies a change.

Video if you want to buy digital is one of the biggest mind fields due to DRM and not any System will do as they aren't really compatible with each other.

Why won't any do? You just steam it to whatever device you want it too.

where do you buy video that has DRM anyway? I'd be pretty annoyed if bought a video online instead of a DVD and could only watch it on my tiny tab.

You can't buy video online without drm, every store has drm, be it iOS, android, windows or another source link blinkbox etc.

Yes you can stream but its not particulary practical.
Which is why it's important to think of Eco system and what devices you have.

Which is why I've kept my apple purchases to a minimum. As although you can install iTunes on windows an play the videos that way. There is no planes for apple to make iTunes available(not that I've seen anyway) on win8rt or wp8, same as no way I can play my iTunes videos on my android devices(other than streaming, which isn't very practical)

Windows drm doesn't support either apple or android.

And well android videos can only be streamed on webrowser that supports flash. So that rules out ipad/iPhone and also means you need a decent Internet connection if you want to watch a video. Which is pretty useless when the chances are when you want to watch videos on a mobile device your unlikely to have a decent Internet connectin.

Hence being locked into an Eco system, things do not play nicely together yet and looks nicely to for the forces able future. I will probably "lose" £150 when I move to windows. But at least all devices can be windows and work seemlessley. W8 on pc (if I keep it) win8 tablet, wp8, Xbox in lounge for Xbox movies/netflix.

Scary thing is, this really is the countdown to when we have some crazy powerful cpu...possibly fanless and a amazing gpu built into the form factor no thicker than a USB connection.
Truely amazes me how this is moving so fast now.

Where do you get this rubbish from?
never heard of downloadable DRM?(google it) I use plex and other streaming apps on my android tablet.
I also use DLNA app for my 3D blu ray player to stream from the network.

I was at a cafe last week for an hour(first outing for 6 months) and used their net and streamed a film while having dinner :)

And untill the MS pads\tablets are out no one knows what they will be like
if I did want one I would wait 6 months for MS to iron out the bugs.

It is not rubbish at all.

It means I need to have it set up and it means the device needs to support multitasking. Or you can only watch a film, whilst wasting your device.

It is no way as good as just having the file on the device.
And of course if I change Eco systems, how do iplay iTunes films on either android phone or wp8 to be able to stream in the first place?

We allready know what windows does. It's the same Zune stuff rebranded. You'll need Xbox movies to play it.

And how does downlaodable drm get around anything? It won't allow you to play iTunes movie without iTunes.

"multitasking" so you don't know how android works then!
Music and podcasts downloaded from iTunes are compatible with Android phones\tablets did you not know that?

Eco system! what's this the new words of the month? you used to say the word "infrastructure" a lot as well..

and you have not looked at DRM fusion at all(I did say google)
Hmm so use Zune Player for android then dump the xbox :)

Did I say you can't do music and podcasts, they aren't drm protected. Try reading I said films.

I know android does multitasking, did I say otherwise? No. Did I only talk about issues with android? No.

Pull your twisted knickers out your crack and see that I wasn't ****ging android off and read what I put.
Would it help you to know I own two apple devices, two window devices and three android devices. I know this mess with drm well. Does that mean I know everything, not at all. But it does not look like downloadable drm solves anything. If you know a program that does solve it I would be greatfull, as it'll be a fair few months, before all my devices are windows. I know you can use software to strip the drm out, but I'm not fond of using such software.

Why have you read that android is crap? I haven't said that all all.

You didn't say drm fusion you said downloadable drm, and how would drm fusion solve the problems anyway?

So how do I play iTunes movies on android or wp8/winRt?
How do I play android drm movies on w8/wp8/win rt/iOS from file?
How do I play Xbox moves on iOS or android?

I don't take all devices with me, so streaming is not a solution, as I said its impractical.

Having a steamer also isn't practical, as you don't always have a good 3G signal, so you can't stream.
So again how is steaming practical, when you're out and about wih no decent Internet signal?

Lol Zune player for android, isn't official zune. It's a Zune themed player. It doesn't have drm.

So again what did I say which was rubbish?

Lol ecosystem is not new, I've been saying ecosystem for years.

You do know drm doesn't come in just one flavour.
