Insurance companies = idiots?

this is what they think youve added to your car ;)

classic!

Phew, it took the guy over an hour, but he called back. Got it sorted, was refunded almost all of what I paid yesterday (winner!), and got an apology for the tarting around.

To the garage! Sucks it's cold and wet though.

what work are you doing on it now?

i tweaked tyre pressures on mine lastnight. this car is up there with crack/speed/bath salts in terms of raw buzz. to say im happy with this purchase is a massive understatement

i have a JDM ARB on my civic. told Greenlight and they werent bothered as it is a honda oem part.

i would imagine if i had gone for something like a progress bar or similar, it may be a different story.

Greenlight simply charge a £25 admin fee to declare any mods. it makes sense to declare loads of mods at the same time as its £25 every time you make additions

Glad it all worked out !

That's awful Clarkey but glad it is all sorted now, don't know about yourself but just like the other thread here recently on specialists such as chris knott, sky, brentcare etc as I am under 25 they do not quote competitively at all, and most won't even humour me with a quote

brings back horirible flashbacks of trying to insure a 2l 16v nova many many moons ago.

This is why specialist insurers are the way forward for modifications, i still remember the half hour conversation and 15min wait whilst she consulted with the boss, because i wanted to declare an aftermarket steering wheel:eek: never again.

I spoke to 2 specialist insurers yesterday, neither of them knew what an ARB was either.

Fitting is something of a PITA job though, rear drop links are stuck on like a mofo. I'll have a brew then try again, failing that I'll have to go to euro and buy some new ones.

If u have new droplinks just use a saw. :)

I thought i would need to take off my exhaust but managed to wiggle it around and managed without taking it off :D

When I got my coilovers and whiteline rear arb fitted it was suggested to just buy new drop links as it makes everything easier and they aren't particularly expensive anyway.
Interesting to hear the specialists didn't know what an arb was either, disappointing times

Just fitting eibach F+R ARBs, 28f/21r(mm), hopefully it will reduce the mega lean I was seeing on track, and make the steering response a bit sharper.

What tyres you running? I use 33psi all round and find that works well, more rear pressure as per the sticker makes it too loose imo. Seems like my fronts are going away from me a bit these days though, don't have the same feeling of total confidence that I did before, maybe it's the cold/damp conditions. The rear feels the same though, I suppose there will always be more heat in the rears though.

i went back to default 32 32 to start as a testing point.

tyreswise i have Kumho ku31s on the rear and Pirelli p6000 on the front.

yes i am posting this from beyond the grave

Get some proper rubber on there ;)

Got these damn things fitted now, rear was a nightmare. Short test drive amongst heavy traffic didn't reveal much other than the ride is unaffected, there's no strange noises, and it definitely feels more immediate in steering response. The fog is starting to come down now so I probably won't bother taking it out again tonight for a proper drive.

Where did you get your ARBs from Clarkey? Any recommendations on fitting guides? The most I've done (and have needed to do) on my E36 in terms of suspension work has been replacing worn bushes, but I'd definitely appreciate less body roll.

Is there any real need to declare an ARB? unless it's one of those big obvious beaks one's for example?

Picked them up used off a Kumho race car, got a good deal. New they are the same price from everywhere really £340. Fitting is very simple, just unbolt the old one and bolt the new one on. I did end up having to undo the rear shocks and take the springs out to get the drop links in and out but that's hardly a major operation. If you intend to use the existing links then use a ball joint splitter to get them off the old bar, they were stuck on TIGHT. Easiest to take the nearside part over the exhaust pipes toward the centre of the car. Do it with a helper if you can, it's an arse on your own.

Anyway, I did take it out in the end. Lets just say the car is on another level now, feels super stable, like it's really unlocked the potential of the suspension and tyres. Hopefully I'll be able to take Redgate without the catastrophic power oversteer I had last time. Superb mod and I'd recommend it to anybody who wants a serious handling E36.
I'm still running it on a supposed junk setting too (hard rear and soft front) so there is more potential in it to come, i'll change the setting at the weekend.

Thanks for that, sounds very tempting! What tyres are you running out of interest?
