Win8 Tablets

Aye, I think it's between the Transformer book and Surface Pro for me depending on cost. Either that or wait for prices to settle and eventually grab a better deal.

I'm not so bothered about having cellular capabilities as I have a MiFi device but it's a shame not many people are enabling this.

I'm just itching to get rid of this damn laptop once and for all!

I prefer it to be self sufficient. But it also kind of depends on EE pricing. If its reasonable and allows tethering I will reluctantly do that.
I still really want an 11.6 1900x1280 screen. But then the surface does make me wet.
And discrete gfx on asus transformer book, would be a bonus. Depending how much of an improvement it is over 4000hd on the intels.

I'm thinking of getting the Surface for now, and keeping my current laptop, then getting a Pro whenever it has a decent graphics card that allows me to game.

The other option is buy a second hand win7 tablet like the Samsung series 7 upgrade it to win8 and wait till the next round of tablets in the new year. I find it hard to believe MS won't add 3G/4G, or competitors won't up their game.

Just had a look on eBay, looks like a great deal. ~£550 including Win8 upgrade, desktop and keyboard.

Have you used one of these? Remember you talking about it before, whats your thoughts on it?

I haven't, I was thinking about it while ago. However there are several people on this forum who do have it and are running w8 on them.

Also had a quick look on ebay and some of the atom based devices are cheap, under £200 like the Archos 9 or 10. Ok won't really do what I want, but would work as a gap stop and replace functionality of the ipad. But I'm not going to rush into anything, not till after Friday and we have more info.

The problem with the cheap atom based win7 tablets is they all have bad reviews (from what ive seen anyway) and are lacking features like a stylus, not to mention the awful GPU. The series 7 looks just as high quality and featured packed as the upcoming win8 tablets, but for a lot less money. Very tempting.

just checked ebay...around £500 seems really good.
I wanted to get one of these a while back but prices over £1k put me off...500 is more realistic...

The Acer W700 seems to be a good tablet for the full Win 8 experience as well as all the normal tablet apps. It seems to be a better price than most of the others coming out too.

It did say it was going to come out the same day as the windows 8 launch in the US, but no mention of anywhere else :(

Glaucus, for the price have you considered the W500?
Can be had for 250, with the 6250 allows for minor gaming, I'm talking Fable 1, Halo Combat evolved, etc.

I hadn't, but for that price it looks reasonably good for a stop gap, still want an i7 at some point. However Ipad is almost unusable today. It really isn't going to last long.

It's what I'm using as a stop gap.
Has about 18GB left, I have a few things on it (As well as Windows 8 Pro 32 bit) Can do 1080p video files pretty easy too.

does the acer w700 have 3g/4g ?
