Do you ever check your special delivery reciept when you send something that way?

I sent a graphics card to a guy on ebay on Thursday, all packaged and sent correctly, special delivery so it was insured properly.

It never arrived and was signed for by a person by the name of Rix that we have subsequently tracked down to a hotel in the same town that he lives, but conveniently the receptionist says she signs for a lot of parcels and says she cant remember it (I would think you would remember the parcel since the guys surname was Fuchs).

The reason we were able to track it to there, the postal worker had put the incorrect post code that happened to be a hotel rather than a street, so we had a single place to call, I verified the name but now I am not sure what to do.

The problem is that the error is with the postal worker but should I have checked the postcode that he typed in? I have sent hundreds of parcels over the years and this has never happened, surely the postal service would go with the address on the parcel and not the address on the slip that he has typed in.

Yer, bottom line is that Special Delivery is special - it's fully tracked and guaranteed to reach destination at a certain time.
It also comes with automatic insurance up to a certain level.

As long as it left you correctly addressed then RM have a duty of care to ensure it reaches the address you put. If RM have added different post codes to make it reach the wrong address that is their doing and you'll want to be claiming on the insurance.

Only ever had one issue, 2 companies in the same building and they handed it to the reception of the wrong company - soon found it.

The frustrating thing is we know where it went, who signed for it and she cant remember taking it in, saying she gets lots of parcels, you would think you would remember signing for a parcel just 5 days ago with a name like Fuchs on it.

Paypal have taken the money out of my account today, although i had removed it and deleted my bank details from them after the buyer started a dispute.

Im waiting for the investigation to be carried out, royal mail are saying I put the wrong address on the parcel, I have double checked though and there is no way I could have got a completely correct address in the same town to a similar sounding address (one was Manor House Hotel (wrong address) and Mansion house (his address) in the same town.

Royal mail seem like they are going to screw me over for the compensation thanks to their operator inputting the incorrect address on the special delivery label, it was signed for at the hotel however the person who signed for it supposedly cannot remember doing so. What I suspect has happened is the post office put the wrong post code down, somehow the parcel has either got damage to the label or completely come off and so it went to the incorrect postcode on the sticker.

Obviously i dont want to be out of pocket by £300 - i imagine paypal will pursue me for the £300 they have taken out their account should I not pay this back to them, but to what lengths? Is it all bluster or will they really go for the jugular.

Well for a start, paypal have a right to that money.

Royal mail is your only recourse.

Or maybe a small claims court against the signiatory.

someone ripped me off on paypal before and my account went to -£70 (the guy did a credit card chargeback against paypal and rather than take the money from his account and fight his credit card company they put my account into a negative balance which i thought was totally out of order)

I edited my name , address, bank details from the account.
paypal emailed me asking for the money and threatened me with debt collectors but that was the only contact I ever had from them.

I can only assume they had no way of determining who I was or where I lived lol...

My address was never listed as verified though which might have made the difference

So it was the Post Office that put the wrong postcode on your package?

Just confused when you said postal worker as the Post Office is a separate entity to Royal Mail posties (yeah I am one).

Surprised the postie didn't pick up on the address being odd tbh on a Special if it ended up at a hotel.

But yeah it's going to take a while as RM will have to investigate what's happened. All the paperwork on how & why etc then you'll get the compensation up to the value you insured it for.

Specials are a pain, especially the 9am ones :D

Yeah the post office put the wrong postcode on the SD label. I think the label must have got damaged, I cant imagine any other reason why it would have gone to the wrong address.

So the receptionist that recieved the parcel, she signed for it? surely it would then remain unclaimed with the company as the name on it wouldnt match anyone at the company right?

So I dont see why the receptionist doesnt have it unless shes opened it and kept it herself(lol) or gave it to someone else.

She said to me "we get so many parcels in that I cant remember them all" even though it was only 3 days before that she signed for it. They are pretty evasive, I know its not the hotels fault but they should be able to remember signing for the thing.

Ask the hotel for a copy of CCTV, she must be covered by CCTV.
