October 23rd Media Event

It's junk though with that frankly HIDEOUS aspect ratio...

You really haven't got a clue.

The iPad mini seems pretty inferior to the competition unless you really love the ecosystem an iPad Mini with retina would have been something.

Ridiculous.... (The plus VAT). This is with HE discount as well.

£269 seems a fairly good price for the mini.

In what way is £270 a fairly good price for a 16Gb device with a 1024x768 screen res and a 7.9" screen?

It's not a fairly good price at all. It's a fairly daft price. An iPad2 is barely any more expensive.

I get that as apple does do polished quality products and software compared with rivals.
I guess the price premium you pay compared to nexus 7 or kindle etc is the trade off

Wait till you see the profit margin on it, and see what "premium" components actually means.

The new iPod touch is a technically better device.

That ipad mini looks just like a larger galaxy note 1 :/

Only the galaxy note 1 had a decent screen res.

Love the new iMac but some of the stuff Apple come out with....."Fusion Drive is a breakthrough concept"

The iPad branding seems a little confusing; iPad Mini, iPad 2 & iPad (with Retina display underneath doesn't quite cut it).

I wonder where that leaves the Air, given that the 13" Pro is now only slightly heavier and SSD. If the Air got retina they would be too similar surely. Maybe they will just merge into one product soon.

No retina display on the mini is a real shame, but it's going to do very well indeed. The iPad all ready has 2/3 of the tablet market from the much more expensive models.

They ought to have killed off the iPad 2 though surely? Too many products, like the 13" Air and Retina.

Things will sort of work out for me I guess, I'm relocating before the end of the year to the US so I'll get the benefit of my current ipad's 4g out there, and I've been waiting half a year for news on the iMac and looks like I will be able to pick one up out there without much wait.

Still feel a bit of the 'too soon' factor on there being another ipad hardware refresh for the full-fat models already though.

Agree...bit of a disappointment really

Serious? I immediately just assumed they slammed a Seagate XT hybrid in there (of course, one that likely has a non-standard temperature sensor somewhere though, maybe that's the breakthrough, or it's 0.01mm slimmer ;)).

That's why i can't watch a live apple event the drivel they come out makes me feel frankly embarrassed.

Not many people will already know this type of concept already exists though so they can get away with it, it might be unique in the way apples software makes the two work together moving files over automatically.

But yes it has to be said they do hype things up far too much!

So how much is my 64GB WiFi iPad 3 worth after this announcement?

Was also going to buy my wife the Mini but at £269 for 16GB and essentially smaller iPad 2 I'm not sure now...
