In the process of putting together a cheap (Relativley of course!) LGA2011 system.
Probably going to get a 3930k, case is Fractal Design R2. Hoping to clock to around 4.2 - 4.5.

Looking for a cooler for around £30 - anyone have any thoughts between these or any other suggestions ?

I guess both of these mean avoiding tall RAM heatsinks (Which I hate anyway but they are cheaper sometimes).

I am no expert but i will chip in :)

If you are ready and able to purchase a 2011 setup complete with a 3930k rather than spend £30 on a cpu air cooler i would suggest spending maybe a little more and possibly thinking of an all in one wc solution such as the Corsair h series.

It would be that much better temp wise and would even help improve your overclocking potential which i doubt one of the air coolers you have chosen above would come close too, just my two penneth worth so don't shoot the messenger :D

Actually, I like sealed water. I appreciate not having a big lump of metal hanging off the board & they're much more pleasant to build with, mine isn't loud at all.
But it doesn't have Sckt 2011 support and decent sealed water is about £60 up. Aiming for a 3930k makes me more inclined to try & save elsewhere.
Also, socket 2011 chips are quite hot & I plan to clock it further than the Phenom is. So I am set on a chunky mid range air cooler.

I appreciate all your replys. I too noticed that the choice of air coolers with 2011 support is smaller.

Myself I like the look of big air coolers.. not that a good kit water cooler isn't nice too. And they can be quiet. It's just that CLC coolers don't have the best track record, expecially Corsair Hydro cooler..

2. For Thermalright’s HR-02 Macho/True Spirit 140/True Spirit and all models using the new universal Intel/AMD bracket, we have the new LGA2011 Retention Kit. Comprised of a new 2011 Retention Bracket and 2011 Screw Pillar Type B.

The all in one water are a bag of worms. Air cools better, lasts longer, is quieter, and is cheaper.

The Alpenfohn Matterhorn is a very good cooler for the money.
- Size: 138x123x158mm
- Weight: 657gr

THermalright is probably just a little better but taller for same money on sale.

- Weight: 771g

Edit: but no 2011 support :(

OMG that cooler is HUGE!!!!

This prototype is bigger than any I know of. The Alpenfohn Everest. Might be able to buy one by Xmas time.

That's just too much really. I never OC that high anyways.

I changed my i7 920 @ 3.5GHz to an i7 980 at stock. With my Phanteks I an run cpu 100% @ 48-50c @ 1000rpm. So nice and quiet. I get a slight hum from fan blades being close to cooler fins.. that's only way I know fans are speeding up. :D

Yeah, well I guess I have something to look forward to when I have my next fit of cooling madness.

I can see you rocking one of those with four TY-143's and the stupidest grin on your face :D

I'm sold...might have to replace my D-14 if this will be the absolute king of air coolers. Look's so much better than the K2. Wonder how much it weighs, safe for the motherboard?

I can imagine someone installing this and all the fans, then seeing their ram isn't installed. :D
