On the wall outside meter boxes, access behind? High amperage power feed.

We have a meter and main fuse / breaker box on an external wall of the bungalow. Presumably the cables go up the cavity to the roof space and then across and down to a distribution panel in the utility room. I want to run a high amperage cable from the meter box, same as I have done to the workshop under the concrete with armoured cable, but this time up into the roof space and across the house. I guess this is common for high wattage showers people seem to favour these days ---- 6kW plus. What's the accepted way of getting cables into and out of the cavity to the meter box? I don't believe the cable to the distribution panel will take the current I need to draw. Thanks.

How many grow lights are you planning on powering from it :-)

It'll need to be the equivalent of at least 10mm T&E. Could be drawing up to 80 Amps start up, 60 Amps continuous at times. A decent home lab is far more cost effective for producing drugs than a loft full of fickle plants. They are for the more cerebrally challenged of the drug producers :) My intentions are not narcotic related ;)
 
Whats the maximum rating on your meter? Mine only has an 80A fuse on the box.

Some sized machinery you are running. Lathe? Milling machine? Got to be something like that.
 
You need to split the meter tails coming from the main fuse with a henly block.

Meter tails can only be so long, best to run a submain in swa from the meter cabinet to the new fusebox after the feed has been split.

Probably gonna need type c or d mcbs if you have high startup/inrush current, a type b might trip

As other have said you main fuse may not take all this load, adding 80amp load onto a fuse already dealing with a house worth of load etc

Not really supposed to run cables in voids/cavities anymore, you could cleat the swa around the outside of the house if needed

Tbh you need an electrician to come take a look in person

It'll only be about a 5 foot run in the cavity, no way is it going on the outside wall! It would be a right eyesore. When the equipment it's for is in use I'll be sure to tell `er indoors no cooking, no showers, and read a book, no TV etcetera, and use a candle.... ;)

We have Thermolite blocks as the inner brick, so I can hopefully find roughly where the original cables run and cut an access hole with a bread knife. It's bloody awful stuff, but when you want to get through it, it's wonderful :)
