Got my brakes fitted tonight in the front room much to the dismay of the wife and cat :P

Couple of things I hope you guys can advise on first easy one the front hose is too long is it worth shortening it as this will require replacing all fluid and re bleeding.

Secondly with these brakes the shifters feel like they don't belong.

At present (see pic 2) I have the brake leavers right up against my grips which is not quite the right position. They need to be further away for my first two fingers to sit comfortably on the lever. This puts the shifter out of reach. I have tried putting the shifter the other side of the lever but it interrupts use.

Am I in need of new more compatible levers than these shimano deore items? Or am i being a noob positioning them?
Nope, you need different shifters without the gear indicator. I ran into the exact same issue with my girlfriends bike a couple of weeks ago.

Sorry guys, just had to share this photo my mate took with his new SLR on Monday.
This was taken on the Balblair Black graded trail just 20 minutes north of my house.
I never even knew he was shooting on this section:

I usually use one i was merely trying to give an indication of the distance i feel the lever needs to be away from the grip/were i have my hands. Can i not just remove the window things on my shifters?

How would i shorten the hose without removing everything having it cut to size then putting it all back together?

I think you can take the gear indicator off. It's just 1 or 2 bolts on the top, no fiddly springs to deal with or anything.

edit: you might be able to get something like this to work. (that one i linked wont fit your shifter, but maybe there's something similar available)

They really are awesome :) So much variety as well. Balblair is rocky, quite technical. Golspie is all out speed :) After the climb of course!

Yes its a single pivot, but then so is the Session 9, Wilson split pivot etc.
So you reckon a bike should be priced by the amount of over complicated linkages it has? (Or moar chainstays perhaps and higher profile bushy eyebrowed riders straddling it? )

Revolutionary would not be the word that I'd use...though unsure which suits best.
Whatever word describes suspension that never over or under reacts and offers incredible amounts of grip...and acccelerates when things get gnarly.

Ok maybe overpriced was the wrong choice of words cos when you look around these days most DH frames are £2500+ Its just when I was looking for a new frame there there bikes that I thought where more deserving of my £3k Had I had a chance to ride a Morewood maybe my thoughts would be different.

All bikes frame are overpriced as Jim says. Take the Orange 22+. First release was the 222 at £1300, moved pivot a few inches or so, make swingarm rounded,£2300.... Make a hole in the downtube....£2800 or whatver they cost now  Try something new ffs :p

Even after testing you might not like it :)

As you said, all bikes are overpriced, though I do wonder if all the manufacturers were to drop their prices significantly, whether that will actually stimulate more new bike purchases. I highly doubt that, especially for DH bikes given that it's a niche market. Perhaps it would for XC/AM use as the disciplines are more accesible to the public.

Companies like YT are making it very hard to sell bikes/frames that are aimed towards the mid-range market. Take the Specialized Status and the Morewood Izimu for example. Both are DH bikes deliberately aimed not at the very top end, but the mid-range spending market. That YT Tues that will be selling on the 12.12.12 makes it near impossible to recommend anything else.

awesome looking trails RX.. :)

Excellent shots Cow... :D When is the video released?

I dare not ask the videographer, they might hunt me down and slam my penis in a car door if I do.
It's supposed to be "soon", hopefully this week.

you should be able to take the windows off easily.

didnt know this, will try doing mind tonight. Presume i'll just need the bits from a bleed kit?

You should just be able to undo the hose, remove the fittings, cut the hose to length and refit. You will only need to bleed if you for some reason lose any fluid. Just be gentle with the hose and none will leak out, except from the bit of hose you remove.

I only have experience of bleeding brakes on my car but by removing the hose you will introduce air into the system.

Air in any hydraulic system cannot be good.

The same procedure on a car would require the system to be bled.

can't see how you're not going to need to rebleed the brakes... soon as you take the hose off either the caliper or the lever, BAM! air enters the caliper body or lever housing... unless I'm completely loosing it...

but i am slightly hungover and tired as hell :(:D

if cutting the hose to length fluid will be lost and when disconnected from the lever / reservoir mavity will cause it to leak out.
