Hello

I've traulled through google and came up with different answers for this. Can you leave a job without giving notice (or a reduced notice) during the probation period? Im still within my 6 months probation period but have a notice period of 3 months.. is there anything the employer can do if I leave early? I do accept that I signed the contract and agreed the terms of employment before anyone brings that up :P

Thanks

A three month notice period within the first six months of starting a job? What on earth is it you do? That sounds extremely harsh

They may or may not do anything which relates to you breaking the 3 month probation period with no notice as stated in the contract.

You do have a copy of the contract, yes?

Ask them. Say you want to hand in your notice but do not want to drop them in it (if you would by leaving all of a sudden)

and see what they say

they may say, its no problem to leave straight away (if that is what you want)

they may ask to stay a few weeks to give them time to replace you

It doesn't say anything about the employee leaving within [x] amount of time? What is it you do?

Nope it simply says that I have a probationary period of 6 months and the company can terminate at any point.

My job is a technical analyst (third line support sorta thing!)

Speak to your Boss & tell him an opportunity has come up that cannot be missed & you're giving him a weeks notice, If he gets stroppy hit him with an ally keyboard.

If there are no requirements of you or limitations placed upon you to end the employment then I'd have thought you're in the clear. Do you work for a very small company, have a very odd contract, and/or own a four leafed clover?

Termination periods must be symmetric or in your favour. If they can terminate at any point so can you.

In our place its a 6 month probation with one week notice for employee and no notice for the business...dunno if that helps?

I had to do this recently, was on month 5 of 6 and was asked to stay on 2 extra weeks when I voiced my intention to leave.

Its not a problem, that's the point of the probation period
