Why do I keep getting quotes/prices excl VAT... The worst are garages! I don't care how much the part/labour is excluding VAT, just tell me how much I'm going to be fleeced for.

Does this annoy anyone else?

I haven't slept in 12 years because of it. I'm on large doses of Metronidazole for the many peptic ulcers that this causes me. It's the reason my wife left me and my kids don't speak to me anymore.

I feel your pain.

/hugs

Is it so hard to add 20% in your head?

Of course not. It's just annoying when they say "that will be £300 + VAT" when they could just say "that's £360"

No, but you shouldn't have to. Any price quoted should be inclusive of applicable taxes. Some places will quote ex-VAT but leave it up to the customer to ask if VAT is included, having the effect of making them seem cheaper.

Does Metronidazole leave you having a metallic taste in the mouth? :D

Ocuk was well known for doing this.

Should 90% of people have to add 20%, or should 10% of people have to take off 16.67% or whatever it is?

Paying VAT is the norm, so list the right price! If a trader is claiming it back that's his lookout.

Would you prefer 90% of the 30% of your customer base worked out something as simple as X x 1.2 or that 70% of your customer base could just pick up what they want knowing how much they'll pay?

I guess it depends on where most of your recurring revenue comes from. If it's tradesmen, it is logical to list ex VAT prices.

I can recommend a good rehab clinic.

It's not, really, as even the tradesmen will first pay the VAT inclusive price.

At first they pay it, sure. Though if it's money that's coming back to you it's more useful to know your net position. I.e. after you're reimbursed are you paying more than you normally would.

If a tradesman is worrying whether or not he can buy the required materials + VAT on his card, I certainly wouldn't want to be using him/her.
