Stop telling me the price excl VAT

I wonder if we can get a new record for people missing the point in this thread? I'm not sure its a complaint about people having a heart attack as a result of ex-VAT prices or being unable to calculate VAT themselves.

It's a thread about it being annoying, which, regardless of the lack of health risk it poses or the relative ease with which you can calculate VAT, it pretty much is.

At first they pay it, sure. Though if it's money that's coming back to you it's more useful to know your net position.

Cool, take 20% off the price then ;)

The price you pay at point of sale is the price that should be quoted. Not the price after it's been through your accounts and you've claimed it back in the unlikely event its a business purchase by a VAT registered tradesman.

You're making plasma trickle out of my nose now... :p

+1

"That'll be 137.84 plus VAT mate". Go on then, do it in your head in less than 10 seconds.

I'd work out 10% and double it, then add on top. That's the easiest way in my head but I'd still probably have to ponder it for a bit! Agreed that it's NOT that simple unless you're a mental arithmetic geek. :)

That would cause some serious confusion later on when they release 20% off the VAT inclusive price does not equal the VAT exclusive price...

Before the sale you just get given the price exc. VAT though and have to do the calculations yourself.

After the sale, you get given a nice pretty invoice with the VAT worked out on it for you so don't even need to do any calculations. Also, a Business registered for VAT is far more likely to understand the impact than the average joe public who just goes to get some work done on their car at the garage for example.

The ONLY reason they do this is to appear cheaper, nothing to do with businesses, etc.

I know, I wasn't disputing any of that. All I was saying is to get the before VAT price, you do not take 20% off the VAT inc price.

100% agree! even though the sum is easy, it makes things sound more appealing when first heard etc!

If vat isnt exempt, then dont tell me the price ex vat as i will never be able to pay that price!!!!
