My question is, having just been reading about the new AMD drivers am I better off getting this:

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-155-MS&tool=3

as opposed to the GTX 670?

My aim is to buy a second card in a years time and potentially get a larger primary monitor.

LtMatt your reply suggests I should be looking elsewhere?!

What would you go for? (within reason!)

Well for a bit less ££ you could get a 7950, which is within a few percent performance wise of the 7970.

The overclocking headroom on the 7970 might be a little bit more though.

If moneys not an option get the 7970, if you want to save a few quid and you dont mind 5-10% (maybe lower in some cases) worse performance get a 7950. :)

Rusty0611 - I am not fussed about 3D tbh. I will just play regular 2D on that monitor with a second older Dell model for web browsing.

OK - in that case get a custom cooled 7950 if you want to save some pennies (within 5% of a 7970 clock for clock) or alternatively look at the 7970's if you want the max.

7970 is roughly comparable to a 680 at 1080p a 670 is comparable to a 7950 (in performance terms)

Definately the 7970 considering you will probably be going for a higher resolution later down the line.

No need to spend £67 on a CPU cooler though. Also do you intend on playing in 3D?

It would make sense, financially, to go for the 7950 but I think I will go for the 7970!

Is the card I mentioned the best bang for buck in the £350 region?

Rusty0611 - Thanks for the advice. I will go for a 7970 then over the 670. Just need to decide which one!

psychodil - Not bothered about 3D. I don't plan on watercooling for at least a year or so (too much of a novice) so I want to max my aircooling capabilities with the cooler. I like the look of the Phanteks although I guess something in the £30-40 region may do the same job?

I prefer the vibrant colours with AMD cards. Plus don't have to worry about the bs hdmi/hdcp handshake nonsense that Nvidia brings :p

Go AMD! :D

If I was you mate I would be looking to save a little on that monitor (since you dont need 3D, save a little on the CPU cooler and spend a little more on a 7970 with a better cooler.

Phage - I have read that MSI are more reliable/have better customer service than Asus? I haven't researched it yet but that review said it was a very large card which would cause issues when buying a second down the line?

psychodil - what would you suggest? I am keen on a 24" monitor and the Benq seems to be one of the best at that price range. Something in the £30 range would be as efficient as the Phanteks? What 7970 would you recommend?

Im not really that knowledgable about monitors so I wont make a suggestion. But theres no point paying for a 3D monitor if you dont intend using it.

As for CPU coolers, I will have a look for you

Aye, the DCU is a triple-slot cooler so XFire is tricky on most boards. I haven't heard of any issues with the DCU II though, and there is somewhere on these forums a list of the various warranties provided by each manufacturers, but it's not easy to find. (IIRC only Gigabyte and KFA have RMA centres in the UK)

AFAIK they are both quality brands that I would be happy to buy. I purchased the Gigabyte WF 7970 but this is pushing your budget @ £350.
