What's the best card out of the 7970 and 680 factoring in mature drivers?

Just thought I'd mention that Matt ran his 7970 at the same clock speeds as my 7950 and there was less than 1% between them (on 3DM11 anyway). For price/performance, the 7950 is definitely the far better choice now.

Yeah, Matt and I were both on 12.11, it does seem that the 7950 has got a larger increase from these drivers than the 7970. Given such a miniscule difference between them now, it is even harder to justify the extra £100+ for a 7970 over an equivalent 7950.

I agree, however im not totally sure my overclock at that time was fully stable. We should arrange to do a re-run Nuclear and sync our clocks up, but this time i will use something i have tried and tested before. :)

Can you match any of these?

1125-1719
or
1156-1823
or
1203-1823
or
1219-1823

Let me know and we'll compare 3dmark+unigine heaven. :)

If anyone else was interested in that mod, I pulled this from the download.

1. What is MaLDoHD for Crysis 2?
A mod that includes graphic configurator, new textures, new materials and fixes for the singleplayer campaign maps.

2. What are the software requirements?
Crysis 2 updated with 1.9 patch. If you want to use DX11 effects also need to install Crytek DX11 patch (and you need a DX11 graphics card).

Links to download:

Patch 1.9 -> http://www.fileplanet.com/219315/210000/fileinfo/Crysis-2-Patch-v1.9
DX11 patch -> http://static.cdn.ea.com/crytek/u/f/crysis2/Crysis_2_DX11_Pack.exe

3. Do I need to install the Crytek HD textures update?
It is not necessary, but you can if you want. MaLDoHD includes, besides the textures created for the mod, some textures from Crytek HD update so you can play without that update if you want to slightly reduce the use of memory. If you think you have enough memory in your computer for both things at once, download Crytek HD textures update and activate them in the game menu.

Crytek HD Textures link -> http://static.cdn.ea.com/crytek/u/f/crysis2/Crysis_2_HiResTexture_Pack.exe

4. What has been included in previous versions?

- Installer
- Config Tool for locked graphics options, screenshots viewer and mod configurator.
- More than 1000 bug fixes in the campaign maps
- Nearly 1000 new textures
- 790 modified material definitions
- Increased performance when using the recommended settings
- New climbing edges placed in different areas of the maps
- Link to download a crysis 2 exe with unlocked graphics cvars (those included in config tool). Useful for those who want to change the graphics options in the game console (not necessary for full use of mod)

Download Link -> This version is no longer available as it has been replaced by 4.0

5. What changed in MaLDoHD 4.0?

- Include files from version 3.0 to become a single download. There is not an update therefore does not require downloading anything else. When installing the 4.0 version, the installer will create "Mods\MaLDoHDv4" folder so it's necessary to delete "Mods\MaLDoHDv3" folder manually if you don't want both versions. Both can exists simultaneously.

- New version of the installer/configurator that does not require the use of external libraries. I have now used alternative techniques within the code. I hope those who could not use the previous version because problems registering libraries can use it now.

- Added three new options in the configurator: "Penumbra Shadows" which allows at any graphics quality to force variable blur shadows on the distance between the object and shadow casting, "MultiGPU" option to solve flicker problems on computers with multiple graphics cards, "Not vanish corpses" to increase how many seconds the enemy corpses remain (original values are between 15 and 20 seconds) and "Reduced Textures" for use some reduced textures. "Reduced Textures" is not available yet because I need users post-launch feedback."

This screenshot tells its own story :D

Can you imagine if that guy went thought every texture he would need a couple of life times :D, Look forward to trying it though ;)

Please stop all the bickering which is better, you couldn't get a fag paper between them, they are that close, 7970 is a better choice right now due to the price.

Regarding the Vram issue, I've looked into it extensively and while there doesn't seem to be much value in having extra vram with a single card at 1080p, there is value in extra Vram at super-HD resolutions and in multi-GPU situations.

There isn't any value @ 5760*1080 if you have 1 or 2 GPU's.

Only if you have 3 GPU's is > 2GB required.

You may have looked into extensively: whyscotty, Gregster and I have tested it extensively. :)

No No No not again

4Gb of of Vram is pointless unless you have the GPU power to push it.

I can't speak for other cards but Nvidia 6xx series cards I've tried all sorts.

Tri Sli and surround/mega res is whats needed to benefit.

By all means prove this incorrect and I'll happily apologise

Wouldnt mind betting you are close to the 2GB limit, if not exceeding at 5760 res and 4XAA on MoH: Warfighter, it uses 1900MB at 1600p with 4XAA.

It's not whether or not you can exceed 2GB that's up for debate, it's whether the framerates would be otherwise playable if the VRAM limit wasn't there.

I've noticed VRAM usage around 1500MB with 2xMSAA and SSAO in MOH.

HBAO requires a huge VRAM amount to run way in excess of what BF3 does. Odd :D.

There is value at anything above 1200p if you have even just 1 card. Extra vram helps at those resolutions. I didn't think this point was really even contested? Likewise with multi-GPU setups. I've seen countless benches which demonstrate this.

Now youve gone and done it....

You're wrong. I'll just leave it at that.

(I've tested 2GB at 5760*1080)
