7970 or 670?

Exactly. If you're a XFire-toting twitch-bunny 120Hz is the way. If not, then look at an IPS

Well I had 120 Hz way before multi-GPU :D.

BF3 averaging 80-90 FPS on 120 Hz felt a lot smoother than 60 FPS capped on 60 Hz. Even 60 FPS on 120 Hz feels smoother than 60 Hz.

It's subjective though I understand.

The 120Hz is worth it.

The Samsung S23A700D 120Hz 3D monitor is a cracker, by the way, everything you need is in the box for 3D gaming.

***Zero Dead Pixel Guarantee** - If your Samsung S23A700D has dead pixel(s) you may return it for a replacement within 14 days of receipt.***@OcUK

3D gaming is where it's at.;)

Skyrim in 3D is stunning.

I'd get a 7950 His IceQ boost myself and an I7 by the way, a great clocking 7950=average overclocking 7970.

i think you should chose the the 7950 and save your money and with the extra money upgrade your cpu. My 7950 came today and my minimum fps in bf3 was 58 and this was on a 64 man map WITHOUT an overclock and it very rarely went bellow 60 fps. Cant wait to see what fps i get with a 40% overclock on the card.

Just to be clear regarding the CPU advice people are giving - it's only going to be beneficial for you if you are going multi-GPU and even then it is a small difference. Two cards will be limited to about 85% GPU usage with an i5 in certain games whereas with an i7 they will be at 95-99%. It's only a difference of a few FPS as well.

If it's a maybe thing, honestly, I would save your money and stay with the i5.

All things considered, if I were you I'd still get an i5.

Right, Im pretty sure I will go 120Hz (probably with a Samsung to save money).

99% of people I have asked for advice have suggested the i5 over the i7 for gaming but I do plan on buying a second graphics card in the future so I would be better off buying an i7 with the money saved on the monitor?

It depends on whether you go CrossFire or not imo, if not, then rustys right that an i5 will suffice.

What sammy and gpu are you deciding on?

Just took a look over your spec, I know it's not white and it's minus the fan/led controler/SSd dock, but this is a very similar air cooling case(the reviews I checked gave very comparable cooling even though the P280 comes with only 3 fans) if the extras aren't part of the appeal:

I was going to get a stormtrooper myself last year and held off for a P280 as they perform very similarly.

I paid ~£124 for the P280 10 months a go, at the price above, it's an absolute steal imo.

I will aim to crossfire in the next year or so tommybhoy.

I have no doubt that the P280 is an excellent case, especially at that price! Unfortunately I must be a bit Essex as I love white and therefore the Stryker!

They're right. In a game where a CPU bottleneck occurs an i7 will only help to the tune of 3-5% increased performance. I don't think it's personally worth it for your average gamer.

If it was mine I would.

I havent seen a 120Hz screen and I dont want to really. If I see a 120Hz screen, I will look back at mine and think 'meh!'. I think a 75Hz CRT is smoother than a 60Hz LCD so im sure 120Hz is lovely :)

If it is between the 670 and 7970, then get the 7970. But I would say it would be better to get a 7950 and save the money, Matt ran his 7970 at the same clock speeds as my 7950 and there was less than 1% difference between them on 3DM11 GPU score. That said, 7970's can often overclock to higher clock speeds than 7950's, but then again I am sure there are many 7970's that can't match my 7950 speeds- it all comes down to silicone lottery.
