Crossfire with ghz and non ghz edition 7970

Hi all

Bascally wanting to pick up another 7970 for crossfire but overclockers dont have anymore of the non ghz edidion windforce 3x 7970

Would it still be possible to crossfire with a non ghz edition card?

Yes, you can crossfire any 79x0 card with any other 79x0 card (7950+7970, 7970 GhZ + 7970 non-Ghz, etc)

Both can work independent clocks too.

7970 CF requires 1 CF bridge.

7950+7970 requires 2 CF bridges.

Why does a 7950 + 7970 require 2 CF bridges?

That would mean you couldn't TriFire or QuadFire a mixture of 7950's and 7970's.

Because they are different models/bios???

Don't have the exact reason, but CrossFire wouldn't work when I switched it on at first(7950+7970), I got an onscreen message informing me to connect both bridges.

I guess it will still work if say the bottom slot was a 7950 going trifire, as you could still use both bridges, but that's just a guess.

The op could save a fortune if he went down the route of 50+70, I very much doubt you will notice a difference ingame.

It wouldn't work as you have to have a 7970 connected to a 7950 with 2 bridges leaving no spare connectors for a third card.

If that's how it works then it would seem to be a bit of a flaw in 7970/7950 CrossFire setup.
