GTX 480 , possible changing coolers?

I have Asus GTX 480 and it really cooks up, when playing games like CS:GO / BF3, temp reaches 70-80C, in Crysis 2 it reaches even 90, since it has only 1 cooler, is it possible to replace cooler with some other, e.g. Arctic Cooling Accelero Xtreme GTX Pro CPU Cooler?

Er you mean put a CPU cooler on a graphics card? Possbile yes but it requires a lot of modding and I wouldn't recommend it.

Sometimes you can remove the plastic cowling and lash 2 120mm fans in a blow/suck configuration depending on whether your case has a side vent which can help, but it may also make the cooling worse.

You can also remove the cooler and replace the thermal paste with something like mx-2 or AS-5.

Or leave it :p

They've always been very toasty cards, those temps seem normal to me. I honestly wouldn't bother!

GPU cooler, don't know why that cooler says bout CPU cooler, it's 3 fan cooler.

Temps are fine. Yes, you can replace the cooler if you want. I guess it could potentially increase the life of it, and possibly offer better / stable overclocks.

Temps are not damaging to it, beyond the fact that hotter = shorter life span to an extent (still within normal levels etc).
But, if you want cooler/quiter, yes the Arctic Cooling Accelero Xtreme GTX Pro VGA Cooler is supposed to a good one.
It will void your warranty, which you cant get around since the little black pad thing on the back of the PCB covers two screws you have to remove in order to remove the cooler :(

GPUs like the 480 can take a lot more heat than some people give them credit for. Though a VGA cooler may well improve your noise anyway- and since you have a 480 (loud!) that would be worth considering.

The resale value of your 480 wouldn't have been amazing anyway so it wouldn't be too unacceptable to void the warranty and then just run the card into the ground, replacing when it breaks.

seems not abnormal temps, clean the fan, dont have anything else near the fan and feed and extract lots of fresh air to your case, all may help a little.

Overclocking utilites can be used to drop the voltage, even a tiny bit less will give you temp reduction as power and heat goes down with the square of the voltage
. Mileage varies depeding on the card usually a few artifacts as a warning then card wont kick onto 3d modes.

I have two of the same ASUS GTX 480 cards. I used Arctic Accelero Xtreme Plus II VGA Cooler before switching over to a custom loop.

They are great coolers and it'll give you a bit of headroom for OC'ing. One thing to consider though, these are 3 slot coolers so check you have the space.

As JonSmith said you can replace the stock thermal paste and that'll make quite a bit of difference. Or turn up the volume and forget about it. The card is good up to and beyond 100c.

105 is the limit i think (for it to throttle down).

Peahead, whether or not they run at a lower temp or not, they are just as good heaters. Since they are still outputting that much heat, its just how quickly your moving it away from the core and into the room.

I LOVE my 480s in the winter, although im sure that just using heating would be cheaper lol
